I work as a blogger for businesses although I do a variety of different types of writing. I particularly enjoy writing about all aspects of design and creativity. I think that your home should reflect your personality and that it should change as you change. More about me at www.kathrynvercillo.com and http://diaryofasmartchick.com.

I just returned from a wonderful trip back to my hometown in Arizona. There were a lot of things that I enjoyed about the visit. However I was happy to get back home to San Francisco. One of the first things I noticed when I arrived back here was that this city's beauty comes in part from the fact that it is surrounded by water. This got me thinking about the ways in which we can add water to our homes.
There are a lot of ways that we can bring water features to our homes. Indoor or outdoor fountains, waterfalls built into gardens or pools and the installation of other water features are all great additions to a home. However some of us can't do these things or don't want to because they can be a waste of water. In those cases, it's best to enhance the existing water that we have (beautifying a bathroom, for example) or to add water-inspired artwork to the house.

However some of us can't do these things or don't want to because they can be a waste of water. In those cases, it's best to enhance the existing water that we have (beautifying a bathroom, for example) or to add water-inspired artwork to the house.
What do you think is the best way to add water to your home's design? Here are ten options that I've considered ...
1. Add a fountain. You don't need to have a pool to add a fountain to your home. There are good fountains for both indoors and outdoors. Choose one that goes well with the rest of your home's design.
2. Make a rock garden with a waterfall. Water features are great when they are used outdoors to improve your landscape. It's best if you can find a way to save water such as diverting the water from the waterfall to an area of the landscape that needs steady watering.
3. Waterfall off of the side of the house. This is a really cool design feature that immediately catches the eye of anyone who visits your home. It's a waterfall that comes right off the side of the house and splashes on to the ground below.
4. Add a pool with miniature fountains. Just adding a pool to your home is certainly a great way to bring water to your yard. However the effect is even more dramatic when you choose a pool that has more advanced water features such as miniature water fountains or built-in waterfalls.
6. Add water artwork to your house. You don't actually have to add real water to your home to incorporate this great element into your decor. You could choose instead to add artwork to the house that depicts the kind of water that you enjoy. Abstract scenes or realistic ones both work well depending on the design of your home.
7. Set your home up to get a view of the water. If you happen to be lucky enough to live in a home that has a view of the beach, a lake or even just your neighbor's great pool then you don't need to do much at all to bring that water into your home. Simply set up your house so that the furniture faces the windows which face this view.
8. Choose a great water feature for your bathroom. This blue and gray water feature that we see here is actually part of a water feature used outdoors on the patio of the home. However I can see this same design working really well in a bathroom to really highlight the water of the bathtub or shower area in the home.
