My main experience with chipmunks was when canoeing in the US-Canada Boundary Waters. Sit down for lunch on land there and several chipmunks would come out to investigate. They had no fear of people and would just walk on to my outstretched legs, pause for a moment, look around, and move along. It was as though I were just part of the landscape.
