With 9ft ceilings a 3" crown is going to look too small imo. Here are two options that will not only look more proportional, but also give you addition (secondary) storage with taller cabinetry. Both utilize stacked moldings at the top which are made from a larger crown molding along with a subtle profiled flat stock (base is often used) The other shows a large crown along with flat stock and beaded molding. (There are many possible configurations though)
Both of these kitchens have 9ft ceilings, the first one uses a 36" and 12" wall cabinet, leaving 6" for the stacked crown. The second one uses a 42" upper with a large stacked crown filling the 12" remaining space
