Well I plan to use Schluter ditra on the rest of the bathroom with kerdi membrane on the seams so the entire floor will be waterproof. I might also do ditra heat for comfort as well as drying out anything that gets behind the tile.
Not sure i've shown a lack of understanding of anything. I know WHY Schluter recommends doing the walls first, and it has nothing to do with waterproofing. It's just a departure from the "roofing" approach to waterproofing a shower enclosure and puts all the waterproofing on their 5" wide kerdi band. I do understand every time questions like this are asked there are folks, often professionals who try and discourage DIY. I get it. However I don't have the $25,000 to hire out this job, and also I think for the most part I will take more caution and care of my own home/bathroom than most professionals will.
