Curating and Placing Art in Your Home
All of the following images have at least one thing in common: The rooms have a striking piece of artwork that is simply perfect. In most cases, it appears the rooms could have been designed around them.
It goes to show that if you fall in love with a piece of art, you can make it work. Make sure its placement and the scale of the furnishings around it are appropriate. This may take some trial and error, and some moving around for as long as it takes until you are satisfied. Once you are satisfied, address lighting the work properly. There are some great examples of how some very strong works are not overwhelming the spaces where they have been placed.
Also, designers - if you see any of your rooms below, please take a moment tell us anything you know about these pieces. I know I'd love to know more and I'm sure many other Houzz community members would as well.

These beautiful horses are obviously the star of the room, but because of the interesting color of the couches, the piece doesn't overwhelm the space.
This work gives the room a wonderful infusion of pumpkin. The furniture around it is perfectly scaled, and it's hung at just the right level.
This piece is so great to me because it has the feeling of a repurposed piece of architectural salvage in an otherwise very contemporary space.
Here is a piece of the past. This large old clockface turns into artwork on the clean white wall.
This glowing lamb just makes me smile. The high gloss blue walls are also a bold choice, yet it all works somehow.
I am crazy over this vintage enamel sign - it hides the under-the-deck area behind it and provides a cheery backdrop.
I love the way these equestrian images work with the patterned flor tiles, and the way the work is lined up in relationship to the light fixtures and the chairs.
What a lovely gallery-like space. The room called for a large, striking piece and this one was was the answer.
The bright stripes of this painting are the perfect dose of color to this room.
Check out the items on the mantle. It's a great way to style the piece. I also love the way it works with the gray surround on the fireplace.
I covet this painting, and it adds the perfect textures that complement the other furnishings and architectural details. It's a bit of folk in a room full of modern.
Don't you feel like this big cat is practically lounging on the settee? I would really like to know more about the person who lives here!
This painting just adds a big jolt of happiness to the room. I know that sounds really cheesy, but for some reason when I look at it, it makes me think of sunshine and sunflowers, yet it's contemporary.
