Hi Elaine. I am an Omega dealer and I found this thread while I was answering a question about one of my photos. What is jumping out at me about your post is the fact that you need to find a dealer who can educate you about Omega! There are distinct differences between stained wood doors and painted doors.
Generally, Omega uses MDF center panels in all its painted doors. The outer four pieces are maple. With a painted cabinet, an MDF center is desirable. It is not an inferior product. Wood expands and contracts with the humidity in your home. Because of this natural occurrence, your doors will show finish breaks at the joints. This is normal. Think of how the wood doors and floors in your home shift with the seasons. Because the center panel of the painted doors is MDF, it will not move. This eliminates finish breaks in the center but also serves to keep the outer joints more stable.
You always have the option of ordering your painted door with a maple center. I wouldn’t recommend it, but you can!
I have been selling these cabinets for 15 years. The majority are painted. I have received maybe 10 requests for door replacements during this time. Almost none. It’s shocking. It’s always been a sink door or garbage. Water can not sit on the finish.
Are the cabinets always perfect when they arrive? Nope! Shipping damage can occur. There have been factory glitches in the paint finish as well. I’ve seen it all! However, Omega always, always, always promptly replaces any damaged cabinets. If it is too much of a disruption in the project to wait, my rep sends a very reputable furniture refinisher.
I can not emphasize enough finding a good, experienced dealer who can educate you on the product. Every time I read a negative review about Omega cabinets, almost without exception, it’s the dealer not doing their job. It makes me crazy!
Please let me know if you have any questions!
