In terms of a drain board/drying rack, this is a picture of the type of multipurpose grid my sink has. If I don't want any grid, it lies on the bottom but generally I keep it in place. I can dry dishes or veggies and I also use it as an extension of my counter - for example when loading or unloading my refrigerator which is close by, I either put bags there or individual items.
I find it very versatile since it enables me to have a much larger sink bowl than I otherwise would have. The drop in elevation doesn't impact its functionality. I also have the smaller sponge caddy which effectively solves the issue of where you keep your sponge.
This is not my actual sink but is taken from the website of the place where I did get my sink - Havens Metal
