I've never thought of my kitchen as an "unkitchen" (I was also getting confused with the unfitted kitchen, which is a look I *love* but DH absolutely does not, lol). But we were determined to make the most of rural-facing windows and have no uppers, and it looks like our layout and dimensions are similar to what you have in mind. This isn't a great picture (excuse the random life clutter), but it will give you an idea. We were going for farmhouse style, but not a white/grey "modern" farmhouse look.
We *love* this kitchen. The island is 10x4 and I think we've got about 22' wall to wall. We were happy to have one block of whole-wall cabinets at the end, and there are mostly glasses in the glass cabinets with dishes in drawers below. We do have a large walk-in pantry right behind the oven wall (6x8) and the coffee machine, mixer, etc are used in there. There is a large pantry pull-out beside the oven, and another one on the other side of the fridge (can't see it in this picture), so we have a little bit of convenient food storage in the kitchen. There's a spice pullout on one side of the cooktops and another for cutting boards on the other side, with pots and pans below the cooktop. There's tons of storage. Tons. We merged two households and have 3 cooks and still ended up with a mostly empty drawer. :)
