Teri--My husband and I are building right now, so I can empathize with your concerns. I am an accountant, but fortunately my husband is well versed in construction---although he is not our builder--he has great vision for what everything will look like. I am also very blessed with a great friend that has helped me with the design and decor considerations.
I can appreciate all of the feedback you have received on this forum from what sounds like some awesome experts. I know that now is the time to make any major changes.
That being said, you've indicated that "scrapping it" and starting over is not an option--at least not for folks like myself who are planning a nice house, but do have to keep $ somewhat in consideration.
I think you're doing the right thing to focus on the positives of the situation. I've read some excellent ideas here about how to handle what you have, and I know it's going to be beautiful. At this point, I would suggest not reading anymore of the "would have" "should have" comments. No offense intended to those giving the advice; you asked for it.
But at this point, you need encouragement, not discouragement. We are nearing the finish line on our build, but there is yet a ways to go. I need encouragement myself, so I will end by saying to steer the course, and keep the faith. God bless you!
