Whether you work from home or just end up bringing work home, having a beautifully decorated space to focus in can make doing your job more enjoyable. These nine home offices stood out to Houzz users recently. The majority feature a healthy dose of gray in the decor, though two spaces celebrate bright color. Which room would help you get things done?
1. Serious study. This dramatic space in Moscow was the most popular of the new home office photos uploaded to Houzz in the last three months. Commenters noted the beautiful gray paint above the picture rail; the color continues onto the ceiling, giving the room a capped effect. The dramatic black windows also caught the eye of some who saved this photo. The large desk in the foreground has gravitas, and it’s hard not to like the puppy bookends bracing the gold-edged book collection. The gray sofas make for an elegant place to catch up on work-related reading.
2. High desert mood. Houzz readers fell in love with this Bend, Oregon, home office, choosing three photos from the space to save to their ideabooks (see next two photos). This shot shows the breathtaking views of the Cascade Range and how the room’s color scheme reflects the palette of the surrounding landscape. Houzz readers commented on the yellow chairs as well as on the long desk for two that stretches across the window.
The office is just off the master suite hallway, separated from the master bedroom by a walk-in closet and the master bathroom.

Houzz users also liked the dark built-in bookshelves of the office.

3. Clean, chic details. Many elements of this classy home office in San Antonio, Texas, appealed to Houzz users, from the glass top on the desk to the silver-and-white patterned wallpaper. This is the kind of space where details stand out individually yet accumulate to create a well-designed and cohesive feel. Among the thoughtful design touches: brass nailheads edging the desk chair, gold detailing on the cabinet pulls and a black outline framing the Roman shade.

4. Focused elegance. This home office in Minneapolis feels so pulled together in part because of its well-coordinated color palette of brown, gray and gold, with hits of silver. Note that most of the details in the room are gold — picture frames, table and chair legs, lamp — but the chandelier, sconces and cabinet pulls bring in silver. The mix helps the room feel coordinated yet not matchy-matchy. Houzz users who saved this photo liked how the desk is set at an angle and how the dark cabinetry abuts the white crown molding on the adjacent wall.

5. Book lover’s nook. Colorful books arranged on diagonally oriented shelves bring levity to this space in West Plano, Texas, and caught the eyes of Houzz users who saved this photo. The desk — which looks like it’s made from metal but is actually wood — has prominent horizontal lines and enough bulk to counterweight the diagonal lines of the shelving. A graphic rug brings its own sense of pattern and line to a space that celebrates both.

6. Mirrored effect. This home office has a simple neutral color palette with oomph that comes from metallics. Houzz users who saved this photo noted that they liked the mirror wall decor. Notice how frequently rectangles make a pleasing appearance here: in the flat-panel cabinets on the left wall, the large-format tile on the floor and the dozen mirrors on the wall. The sputnik-style chandelier offers a surprising change of shape.

7. Refreshing mint. Brooklyn designer Lauren Wills’ love of color is on display in her home office. The space is warmed and lit by a massive skylight, and Wills painted the walls leading up to the skylight pink. Houzz users who saved this photo loved lots about it, from the desk for two to the “No Whining” sign on the wall ledge.

8. Simple workspace. The decor of this San Francisco nook is both pretty and simple: a desk, a chair, a lamp and a clock. The great lines of the pieces make the space look well-designed. Houzz users who saved the photo liked the chair color as well as the clock, desk and lamp.
9. Glam, dark and bright. This home office in Salt Lake City blends glitz, color and drama with a bold chandelier, multicolor rug and dark panel above the fireplace. A pleasing repetition of circular elements — on the cabinets, in the light fixture and in the decor above the fireplace — brings intentionality to the space. Houzz users who saved this photo loved the bright gold accent of the chairs and how the space is both colorful and dark.
