I guess the positive of being responsible for every decision as an owner builder, is no one ever says, "our supplier" to us. Sheesh.
I love all the current, bright, textured and shaped tile, but will only use it sparingly in powder room, and around fireplace. Our current primary bathroom had old fashioned tile on the floors from 1978 before reno (sort of trefoil shaped). I wish that sort of thing were not so $$$ now. The kitchen will be white marble tile in a herringbone pattern, with varying shades of white.
But like @KT B I hate cleaning grout enough that I will avoid too much little tile.
So, in our new bathrooms. we'll use large, "marble" porcelain tiles with the smallest grout lines possible. In humid FLA, mold grows in the blink of an eye no matter how great the A/C is. Full walls of granite/marble, unfortunately, are too heavy and expensive. In our current house, we remodeled the bathroom with large "grass cloth" porcelain, with brown grout. I would do that design again, but the trend has passed and I cannot find that tile (unless I pay $$$).
For the floors, we are still deciding. I need a zero entry shower.(After biking accident, I have 46 pieces of hardware in my spine, shoulder, ankles, so handicapped provisions need to be in place as I age--and btw, the ADA toilets ARE so much easier.)
Any suggestions on zero entry floor designs will be welcome. (Penny tile will work, but so much grout.)
Current shower (we have recesses, too decorated with that trim).
Stuff I love, but can only do in small amounts
