Modern Icons: The Series 7 Chair
This Chair's Bright Colors and Simple Curves Are at Home Just About Anywhere
The Series 7 Chair was designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1955, and he debuted it at the H55 Exhibition in Sweden. This chair's simple curves, waterfall seat and bentwood design result in ergonomic comfort that makes it suitable for desk or dining table. Its simple design means it can be paired with tables from the basic farmhouse to the most contemporary glass-topped sculptural options.
An unobtrusive white version of this chair is a perfect choice for this minimal modern workspace.
The Series 7 holds its own in an open modern space. It's an excellent choice for an eat-in kitchen.
One of the only problems with this chair is choosing which of its many colors or finishes you like the best. This one adds just the right amount of tangerine to an office.
The Series 7 also comes in a bar stool and counter stool versions. Using several in a row creates a pleasing wave pattern.

They are a great choice for a minimalist contemporary kitchens ...
... but are also a good option for mixing and matching in a vintage modern kitchen. Here there is a wonderful contrast between the Series 7 counter stools and the rustic cafe chairs at the kitchen table.
A bright red choice is a good pairing with this chalkboard table. Can you spot the other Jacobsen piece in this room?

All of the color in this room comes from the chairs. It helps show off their bent-hourglass shapes.
The color palette here lets them appear to float above the wood floor.
