The Pattern Makes the Space
Over the past few years, the rooms in my house have evolved from colorful but sparsely furnished and dominated by solids to a little more crowded and sprinkled with patterns. The truth is, I love patterns, but I'm always a little afraid to commit to them (even buying patterned sheets was a big deal for me).
That's why I love looking at pictures of rooms with patterns - they make me happy and I don't have to deal with all of my pesky commitment issues. Right now, these patterns are lifting my mood:

These panels inspired the whole ideabook. They have an almost Rorschach vibe - I'm sure I could get lost in them for hours.
As someone who can barely buy a patterned pillow, the thought of committing to a patterned floor gives me heart palpitations. I love this one, though - it's got great color and is so interesting.
Ceilings are nearly as intimidating as floors for me - but knowing that this is a mural makes the commitment a little less scary. Plus, I love the way the pattern draws the eye up.
I like the way the pillow in this room emphasizes the rug pattern - and a pillow and a rug? THAT I could handle.
These drapes are a fabulous backdrop for neutral furniture.
I love that this pattern isn't just visual, it's also textural.
I love the architectural feel of this pattern - it reminds me of Renaissance paintings that focus on clean lines and the horizon.
Wallpaper paste is a bigger commitment than I'm willing to make personally, but I do like how this pattern almost acts as a background neutral against the strong green.
These windows make a fantastic checkerboard pattern.
Sarah's cottage is filled with excellent use of pattern - including this quilt.
And also scattered throughout this room.
This space shows that there's more than one high impact way to incorporate pattern into a space. I love the floors (even if they scare me - wouldn't you get sick of those at some point?) but I also love the shelving, which reminds me of bricks.
