Spring Forward! 7 Ways to Make the Most of This Weekend
Wild birds, Pi Day or an extra hour of daylight in the evening — which of these pre-spring pleasures tops your list?
Daylight saving time begins March 11, 2018, which means that although the early mornings will be darker, you’ll be able to enjoy an extra hour of daylight in the evening. That’s an extra hour of daylight for sitting on the front porch, taking a stroll around the neighborhood or savoring the fact that the sun is still up when you get home from work.
Make good use of the coming weekend by sprucing up the porch, planning a bird-friendly garden and lightening up your bedding. And don’t forget to set those clocks forward an hour on Sunday!

2. Celebrate Pi Day on March 14. Have fun with math and celebrate Pi Day — which also happens to be Albert Einstein’s birthday — with the pie of your choice. Pi Day is celebrated worldwide on March 14 (3/14), because the first three digits of the mathematical constant represented by the Greek letter π are 3.14. If you don’t feel like calculating the circumference of your pie before you eat it, we won’t tell anyone.
3. Prep your porch for spring. Longer days and springlike weather mean more time to enjoy your home’s outdoor spaces. Make relaxing on the porch even more of a joy with comfortable furniture, good lighting and lush potted plants. Then be sure you do sit down to savor it.

4. Swap out heavy bedding. Trade the heavy duvet and wool blankets for lighter, spring-worthy bedding. Choose comfortable, breathable materials like chambray, cotton and linen, and consider lighter hues like robin’s egg, pale pink and gray.
Spring weather can be fickle, so consider keeping an extra blanket (or that duvet) within reach, so you can toss it over the bed on chilly nights.

5. Clear off your bulletin board. Excavate the layers of paper clogging your household message board, transferring still-useful info to your calendar or files and recycling the rest.

6. Clear out an area of your home that’s been bothering you. Get a jumpstart on spring cleaning by setting aside a block of time to clear out one space in your home that’s been bugging you, such as a cluttered play area or messy home office.
While you’re at it, think about the way you’ve been using the space: Is it still working for you, or would you like to try a change? Moving the furniture or tweaking a room’s purpose can dramatically change the look and feel of a space.

7. Set the clocks forward. Daylight saving time, which gives us an hour more of light in the evening, begins at 2 a.m. March 11 — so you might want to set the clocks forward an hour the night before. If you’re planning to meet friends or attend church on Sunday morning, don’t forget to plan accordingly.
