Homeowners’ request. A functional, fun and whimsical bathroom design for their young daughter.

Special features. Decorative wallpaper (Birds & Butterflies by Schumacher). Custom-designed vanity and decorative mirror. Carrara marble countertops and mosaic flooring.

Designer secret. “To ensure the space did not become too overwhelming or busy, and to allow the wallpaper to stand out and be the star of the show, we kept all other finishes in the space simple, clean and neutral,” designer Jennifer Greer Hartmann says.

Homeowners’ request. A fun and bright bathroom with a touch of industrial style for a young brother and sister.

Special features. Wall-hung trough sink. Blue accent tile on wall and floor. Industrial-style wall sconces. Custom vanity cabinets.

Designer secret. “Employing unconventional industrial plumbing fixtures and faucets in a residential setting creates a surprise that enlivens the space,” designer Paul Gleicher says. “And then utilizing the bright but sophisticated colors enlivens the room.”

“Uh-oh” moment. “We debated what height to mount the sink and faucets and medicine cabinets on the wall [at], considering the young age of the children, but ultimately opted to mount them at adult heights and then utilize a footstool that can be easily stored below the sink,” Gleicher says.

Homeowners’ request. “Although they wanted a space that would work for their young family, they weren’t afraid of incorporating some striking and innovative design features,” designer Joelle Craig says.

Special features. Sugar Skull wallpaper in black and gold by Anatomy Boutique. A framed portrait takes the place of a mirror. White marble herringbone mosaic floor tile with a black marble border.

Designer secret. “Rather than tone down the rest of the finishes, we decided to complement the wallpaper with some unique flooring,” Craig says. “The curated layering-in of varied materials and patterns is what makes this powder room so special.”
