Using Fans to Bring Asian Flair to a Room
The East-Meets-West decorating style is a popular one. If it's one that appeals to you then I think one of the easiest ways to start bringing Eastern ambience into your space is to decorate it with the beautiful fans that come from Asia. I love the idea of hanging a big fan on the wall as art or propping up little fans like sculptures on display throughout the house.
If real fans aren't quite right for your home then you might want to use a fan-based theme to bring Asian influences into your design. There are curtains, pillows and wallpaper depicting fans. These come in all different colors so you can choose one that is as bold or understated as you desire.
And if you like fans then you should also look at their sister products - umbrellas. The Asian umbrella can be used both indoors and out to create a great fun feeling for any space. Below are some ideas on how to use fans and umbrellas in your design.

It's hard to tell but it looks like there's a single small fan perched aside one of the candles at the far end of the room. Adding a little fan is a great way to give Asian accents to a room and to create a sense of tranquility there. I also love the symmetry of this space!
This wallpaper reminds me a little bit of Asian fans in its design. That got me thinking that finding really elegant wallpaper that depicts actual fans would be a great way to make a bold statement in a room. What do you think?
There are really great Asian-inspired curtains. I would love to see a similar style that depicted beautiful Asian fans instead of the buildings that are depicted on these. I think the black, white and red look is perfect though.
This great pillow shows off the kind of fabric that I was thinking of in regards to those curtains - fabric that depicts pretty fans. I love the idea of having the fan image in the home without necessarily using real fans. These pillows are gorgeous and would add some chic style to a bedroom or living room.
Okay so there is no fan pictured in this image but I absolutely think that there should be. This is a great example of a totally sexy Asian bedroom. Imagine how much sexier it would be if the woman who lived here could easily reach to the bedstand or chair and pick up a sexy floral fan with which to cool herself off (and heat things up!)
A bathroom is a great room to do in an Asian-inspired theme because it's a room that you want to be calm and relaxing. I love the idea shown here of hanging framed pictures of Asian art scenes. I'd choose one that included a woman with her fan.
We don't actually have fans here. Instead we have upside down umbrellas. Nevertheless, they do kind of hint at the same style and feeling that we get from the fans. And they're beautiful! I love this kids' room even though it feels a bit overdone.
Here we've got another umbrella but this one is a more grown up version. I love the dark red color. Its placement in the fireplace makes it catch your eye inmmediately.
Speaking of umbrellas, let's not forget that this is something which can be used outdoors in your yard. These umbrellas remind me of a modern take on a Japanese design but of course you could find fabric to create umbrellas that depicted actual Asian fans.
