Teresa, where is the tile from? almost all of these self spacing white subways have end pieces or 'bullnose'. they cost a bit more per tile. You have to specify an end bullnose or a corner bullnose. . Tell them you also don't want tiny slivers where they are most noticeable. As for ending the tile, I would end it even w/the countertop.
You know, I just noticed why it's so funky. they didn't do a standard subway which is 1/2 or 50-50 offset. they did a 1/3 off set. (at least at the end in your first pic.) That's a horrible layout. tell them you want a standard subway layout (like shown below). And it should be 50-50 the entire length of the wall. Tell them you want a new tile setter.
You're paying the bill, right? Then demand you see what's going on. And do not pay them in full until it's done to your specification.
That tile job is a no-no on the end. tell them to remove it and show them this pic
if there is no bull nose tile, then use a pencil liner:
or if he has to do it this way, at least end the spot with full tiles and half tiles (not slivers) and do it neatly, like pictured herebtw, those end vertical pieces would be a top bullnose (it's rounded all along the outside edge) and the top one would also be rounded on the corner.
