12 Ideas for the Foot of the Bed
Do you have any furniture placed at the foot of your bed? Over the years I've had a slat coffee table bench, two patent leather ottomans, and an antique settee. It's very convenient to have something there for many different reasons, including the following:
1) A place to place laundry as you are folding and putting it away.
2) A place to pack and unpack your suitcase (though with this whole bedbug scare going on lately, I don't put my suitcase anywhere near my bedroom anymore!).
3) A place to sit and read.
4) A place to put all of those books you want to sit and read.
5) A place to put the sheets when you are changing the linens.
6) A place to store linens and/or extra quilts.
7) A place to stash your hopes and dreams (isn't that what Hope Chests are for? I never had one, so I don't know!)
Let's take a look at what designers are placing at the ends of beds these days:

11. A pair of smaller upholstered benches is great, especially if you are into symmetry.
Hi, I have a linen cupboard that is about 12" taller than the footboard of our four poster king size bed. It's 38" long and the width is about 25". Is it OK to keep it at the foot of the board. Most furniture that we see placed at the foot of the bed is lower than the footboard so I'm wondering if this might look odd. Any thoughts and suggestions would be deeply appreciated. Thanks a lot!
I am not a designer but generally, whatever pleases you is beautifully. Depending on how decorative your footboard is, you might want to hide it with the cupboard. Or keep it visible and get a shorter furniture item. The bottom line is, whatever is pleasing to you and your taste is right.
On the other hand, I just saw this story http://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/68001450/list/9-ways-a-bench-can-raise-your-decorating-game and is says: "...Ideally the top of the bench should be a few inches below the finished top of the bedding (once sheets and duvets are factored in) for a pleasing play of heights..."
