Unexpected Materials: Designing with Rope

I took a quick trip to Palm Springs this weekend and was totally taken by the way The Ace Hotel used ropes in their lobby. The decor of The Ace is an eclectic take on mid-century modern, mixing in their take on some seventies macrame and utilizing the rope throughout the design.
Of course this started me on a hunt for images of how the designers on Houzz had integrated rope into their designs. It reminded me of

The rope theme continued through the resturant, King's Highway, covering cords on the globe pendants.
The Hillside House covered their cords in rope as well. I love the dash of casual it adds to the design. It's a brilliant idea when you have an unsightly cord to cover!
They also utilized ropes as drawer pulls in this bathroom...
...and in the laundry room.
One of the most striking uses of the rope was in this long light installation...
...that continues down through several floors on this staircase.
Here in another project, these architects employed rope on their staircase to add interest to the railing.
If you look at the vase in the right corner, you can see how A Beach Cottage employs rope and twine as a nautical detail.
These lampshades have a rope-like look to them, and add so much texture to the room.
This coffee table gives the appearance of being wrapped in rough rope.
