Wellesley Residence

The timber-framed addition to this house is almost double the size of the original house. The clients were merging families and needed a much larger home, and the wish list included a kitchen open to a large great room, front porch and entry foyer, two-car garage, and additional bedrooms on the second floor. The challenge was to integrate the small existing house with the larger addition, and was accomplished primarily with similar siding materials, window styles and rooflines. The second floor dormers at the master bedroom suite have hip roofs recalling the existing roofline, and the shingle siding and 6 over 1 windows tie the new and existing structures together. The house features a second floor sitting area overlooking the 2-story great room, a central stair with skylight which floods the interior with light, a front porch with wood posts on stone bases, and a projecting balcony off of the great room which faces the setting sun.
