Rosedale Backyard Living Space

This is a prime example of detailed design within a small urban space. The project is located between Rosedale and Yorkville in the city of Toronto where the homes have lane ways and garages behind the houses. This architectonic outdoor living space is set in the small space between the back of the house and the the lane way garage. The design is ordered around the raised deck; it's dimensions determined by the outdoor furniture arrangement so as to maximize the space. To achieve a cocooned, private feeling a wrap-around raised planter, and an overhead pergola where designed. There are no pergola posts within the space so as to keep it open and uncluttered - these being within the planter at one end, and integrated into the barbecue island at the opposing end. Chunky 4"X4" cross members provide privacy from the neighbours, support 2 gas outdoor heaters, and, provide the support for a suspended Polygal covered roof suspended over the barbecue. The barbecue island and flanking planters are clad in veneer stone. The overall space is tied together with a freestanding architectural screen placed in front of the existing standard issue pressure treated board on board fence.
