New Interior Designer Project with Help from Design Coach Chelsea Coryell
This beautiful kitchen and living room remodel project was completed by new Interior Designer Erin Zacharda with the help of Design Coach Chelsea Coryell from Design for a Living.
The client had hired a contractor and had started the demo portion of the project when she realized that she was in over her head and needed some professional help.
She was referred to Erin from a friend and happy client whom we'd just finished installing a Living Room design. Being a relatively new interior designer, Erin hired me as a coach to work on this large and involved project and I think the results speak for themselves.
The client was living in a Mid-Century house and had East Coast Cottage taste. She has a family and a busy lifestyle, so it was important to design a carefree and relaxing living space. We wanted to take advantage of the breathtaking views of the Puget Sound, as well as incorporate her new outdoor family room to create an open and casual place to entertain her friends and large extended family.
We redesigned the kitchen floor-plan to maximize storage and efficiently create task areas in this small working space. We worked with a custom cabinet maker to create a clean lined white and grey design that incorporated the clients love of Carrara Marble throughout.
The curve of the island counter-top not only created a small casual breakfast bar, it echoed the curved balcony railing just outside of this space. We used back-less iron and natural wood stools that could easily tuck under the counters edge to preserve this busy traffic area.
We warmed up the room with a gold leafed chandelier from Ballard Designs, to balance out the cool grey marble and the grey cabinets. The client was a weary at first but trusted our design, and in the end it became the favorite piece in the room.
The adjoining living room features two swivel chairs from Lee Industries covered in a white performance fabric, so the client could relax and enjoy her view at the end of a long day, without worrying about spilling red wine.
We kept the original fireplace, which looked dated and out of place, and chose a soft warm grey on the walls to seamlessly incorporate the architectural feature.
The sofa is a perfectly scaled, and beautifully crafted Tribecca Sofa from Miles Talbot. We added a pop of color with orange and navy blue throw pillows that tied in the clients prized hand knotted blue rug. All of the driftwood colored tables and accessories nod to the waterfront view of the home, without feeling too "beachy".
The client asked for a casual dining area that would easily accommodate large family holidays as well as weekday homework sessions. We chose a large rustic farm style dining table from the Four Hands Company, timeless Parisian style wood side chairs, and headed the table with fully upholstered wing back Parsons Chairs. She loved it.
The antique brass nail heads on the navy blue head chairs, subtly ties in the chandelier from the kitchen, and the blue accents from the living room, bridging the rooms into one large beautiful space.
The client was absolutely thrilled with the finished project and has already referred Erin to a friend in need of a designer. It proves my point that the easiest way to market your design business, is to create happy design clients.
