My Houzz: Tropical Modern Casitas Perch in the Nicaraguan Hills

Robert Dull came to Nicaragua for the first time in 1997 from Austin. He fell in love with the country and vowed to come back and buy land as soon as possible. Two years later he bought 10 acres on a hillside 300 meters from Playa Gigante, a small farming and fishing village on the Pacific Coast. In 2004 he met some people in San Juan del Sur interested in building a hotel near the beach. The Brio Project, created by CasaMod, a development company with an emphasis on modern designs, began construction in 2006.

The Brio Project consists of a Hotel, Staff quarters, and a Housing Community on the hill above. The Casitas were originally conceived and planned for the hotel property. Dull moved them up above adjacent to the home sites where they would have a closer connection to the rest of the community. Dull worked closely with Javier Arana, an architect from Granada, to create the blueprints, structural and electrical plans.
