A home in the city that offered ample indoor and outdoor space to start a family, as well as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to create the home of their dreams, was what Stella Verbrugge and Joeri van Zwoll were after before they scooped a nineteenth century renovators dream located in an area of Rotterdam, the Netherlands, that last year won the Architecture Prize for innovative urban design. The three-story property was part of a municipal initiative to rescue rundown areas of Rotterdam, and it’s condition was in dire need of a creative eye and thorough renovation. Luckily, this savvy young couple enlisted the help of architect and contractor Dimitri Kruithof and their renovation journey began. Though not intentional, the raw industrial aesthetic of this home has formed the basis upon which a unique industrial-meets-retro vintage city dwelling has been built.
