Irving Park Blue Bathroom Rehab

This 1948 Irving Park home has seen better days. But the young family living there was ready for something fresh. We gave them exactly that with this bathroom remodel.

We’ve replaced the old (almost antique) vanity with a new modern double with two sinks. This gives twice as much work space and storage, and the style is a major upgrade. And of course the toilet was moved to accommodate the larger vanity, creating a better overall floorplan.

The old wall tile was removed, patched, and painted a neat white with a semi-gloss finish.

The mirror is from Kohler, with a 40×30 aluminum cabinet.

New heated floors have been installed and topped with a large white wood-look tile. The whole thing looks a lot cleaner, and you don’t have to worry about cold morning toes.

We replaced the old window with something larger and with more presence. And we installed a new door while we were at it, trading the damaged brown wood for something a little nicer in a clean white to match the bathroom.

Our goal in this bathroom remodel was to make better use of the space and create a cleaner look. That started with taking out the old bathtub and building a new, modern shower. The main tile is a glossy blue subway tile with white grout, and the trim and seat are white Cararra marble. This provides some contrast and color, so it’s minimalist and modern but never boring.

No matter how you like to shower, this one has you covered. There’s a standard shower head, a handheld option, and a luxurious, ceiling-mounted rainfall shower head.

The glass surround and swing door keep the light and flow going in a way that a closed or curtained shower wouldn’t. It also allows for this neat toilet nook, without creating a dark space or the need for additional light fixtures.

This bathroom underwent a complete transformation, and looks like a brand new home. It’s a much more usable, aesthetically-pleasing space, and we hope the owners will enjoy it for years to come.
