24 Hires on Houzz
Grand Ridge Estate
Situated on the crest of a ridge overlooking the open landscape below, this home is designed to take full advantage of this prominent location while still blending into its natural surroundings. The three-level structure features a practical lower level intended for future use by the extended family, while the extensive main level is optimized for entertaining and aging in place. A theme of interconnected living spaces, balanced with areas of privacy and reflection, compliments the overall experience. With the gracious kitchen front and center in the layout, there is no doubt where this family’s values lie. Many amazing meals will be shared in this house. The library suspended above the great room offers a peaceful retreat and breathtaking views of the terrace and surrounding vista.
Working closely with the architect, the owners sought to create a home that would tell a story and evoke a sense of drama. A welcoming courtyard leads to an entrance that hints at what’s inside, but does not give away the full narrative. Upon entering, one is enveloped by a warm, human-scale space, rich with texture and formality. As guests are invited deeper into the home, the space opens up dramatically to a double-height great room, offering expansive views that connect occupants to nature and the surrounding environment. The magic of the main space is amplified by linear clerestory windows, bathing the walls in a warm and inviting glow, while a unique open-corner door wall flows into a seamless connection with the outdoors.
The exterior features durable, low-maintenance materials that blend harmoniously with the environment, with a simple palette of wood, concrete, and transparent glass. The overall effect is one of a home that is perfectly at peace with itself and the environment.
