These clients love the Adirondacks of New York. When purchasing a new home on Long Island they wanted it renovated into the same Adirondack feeling. For the outdoors, they decided on an all-rock swimming pool that looks like a pond — along with this rustic custom in-ground spa.

Situated on a lovely piece of waterside property in Merrick, Long Island, the spa is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the stunning water vistas. Outdoor LED lighting adds to the romance when daylight begins to fade.

Long Island Hot Tub designed and built the spa’s circular seating bench and floor from natural bluestone which matched the surrounding patios. We also added four natural stone steps for getting in and out of the hot tub.

Because the clients are so passionate about their three large dogs, we landscaped in lots of grass in between the relatively small upper and lower bluestone patios. One way we did this was adding stepping stones between them to break up too much of the “hardscape” and allow for more grass and plantings.

In addition, the bluestone for the patios was installed in a special way to be flexible during the freeze/thaw nature of weather in the Northeast. Instead of first pouring a concrete slab, we used recycled crushed aggregate with sand as a bedding course and polymer sand joints between the bluestones. This makes for a flexible system that will go back into its same place, eliminating constant maintenance.
