An anemic '90s spec house kitchen is transformed into a contemporary showplace with all the amenities. Custom cherry cabinets with book-matched veneer encircle a custom island with a glass-and-steel display case. The majority of the lighting is high-efficacy to meet the state energy code... the space simply glows with carefully placed low-voltage fixtures. Having an individual fridge and freezer makes for lots of space for entertaining, along with a drawer microwave. The cabinets at the desk and cat feeding area benefit from removing a decorative soffit so that the cabinets ring the room. One of the most compelling features in person are the Antico Brown counters in a satin finish, which means the whole counter, including the waterfalls at the ends of the cabinets are textured. The stone and the carefully crafted cabinets are gorgeous, thanks to the design of architect Andrew Finch.
