We were approached by this client in hopes in updating their Manhattan pied-a-terre three-piece bathroom. Their desire was to remove all the original fixtures and tiles and update the space to create a contemporary and functional bathroom.

As a CLIPP professional (Certified Living in Place Professional) we sourced modern and clean looking products that would be functionally inclusive to all that used that bathroom. A towel bar that also acts as grab bar positioned conveniently at the entrance of the shower, lever faucetry, tilted mirror and durable textured slip-resistant porcelain floor tile, and accent tile to aid balance as a horizon line are all important universal design applications.
Heights and locations are important in creating an inclusive environment, as well. Completing a drawing set to instruct contractors where items are to be positioned is critical. Items like shower hand-helds and bathroom accessories baskets need to be at heights that eliminate bending and stretching to reduce the risk of falls. Floor plans and elevations not only help illustrate the functional, but the decorative. The tile design is laid out in coordination with our newly sourced items for a beautiful, well thought-out look.

Project managing this gut renovation, we removed all items excluding the alcove tub which was re-glazed. Installation of all plumbing, electrical and tile. Within a couple of months this bathroom was complete and ready for the couple’s next stay.
