Basement Oasis

Leesa & Rob
This project started and ended with a party! The first celebration was to allow friends and family to draw whatever they wanted (I’ll let your imagination take you where it will) all over the old Basement walls that were soon to be demolished to make way for their new fabulous Basement remodel. Leesa & Rob have an adorable house and beautiful yard. They have obviously taken great care in making their home an oasis, and it was only a matter of time before they finally tackled the Basement. Rob wanted the ultimate man-cave and office where he could work from home. Leesa wanted a spa, a second Kitchen where she could do her annual vegetable canning and cocktail experiments, and both love to entertain guests. They are detail oriented people and knew from experience the value in sometimes taking the hard road to get the end result they want. For example, they were caught between wanting to run PEX tubing (hot water for radiant heat) between every floor joist in the Basement ceiling and desperately wanting to expose their beautifully preserved original Doug-fir joists (that would have to house the PEX) as a design element. What did they do you ask? They installed the tubes as planned and covered it with drywall BETWEEN EVERY JOIST to allow the wonderful wood to remain visible. It isn’t often that owners select the most difficult and expensive option to really make a design detail sing. Leesa and Rob took the time to understand their options and were able to prioritize their goals, so they could afford to spend a little extra on the things that would bring them the most joy. I encourage all homeowners to do this but fully recognize that it isn’t easy. Rob & Leesa seemed to work through every design decision with their game-faces on, and the fabulous details that resulted adorn every surface in every room.
