About Piper Stone Piper Stone is a boutique interior design firm located in the San Francisco Bay Area. We specialize in reimagining existing spaces, and we believe that form and function go hand-in-hand, and neither should be sacrificed for the other. Our attention to detail and thoughtful consideration of elements ensures that the result of every project is a fully-realized, beautiful interior that is reflective of your style and needs. Piper Stone was built on the idea that designing and remodeling should be a fun, transparent, and collaborative process. Good design should be accessible to everyone, and no budget is too large or too small. We work to bring you into the process and empower you to drive the decision making process and own the outcome. About Michael Stein Michael brings over 10 years of experience in custom remodeling and design. After working as a craftsman and finish carpenter specializing in the restoration of historic homes, Michael returned to school to pursue his degree in interior design, and went on to work in high-end residential and hospitality. He has a deep knowledge of construction process and management, as well as years of experience in designing custom furnishings and fixtures. He was worked with some of the best in the industry, and brings big firm knowledge and small firm customer service together to provide an expertly-managed, deeply personal, and hands-on approach to design.

I originally reached out to Michael to get some advice on a remodeling project for my home. I already had some ideas, but it was immediately clear upon Michael's brief examination that it needed a pair of fresh and experienced eyes. Michael's creative advice gave me the breakthrough that really made the difference in making my project realistic. He also went above and beyond my expectations by creating architectural drawings which were invaluable in helping me get building permits. Because of his keen professional eye, his resourcefulness and his trustworthiness my vision became a reality. Thanks Michael!

I worked with Michael on my kitchen remodel. His insight and advice was invaluable. He was very responsive and helped me especially when it came to the details & finishing touches of the project. Michael came to our small house to estimate what might be done with our tiny kitchen. He listened attentively to be certain he understood what we wanted and was clear about what the actual possibilities are. We have a small war house in Richmond, and we're debating about getting out of staying put or moving to a more rural locale. As part of that process we are contemplating whether to extend this house to accommodate a larger kitchen or simply to improve and beautify the little kitchen we have. If we decide to keep our current footprint, we’ll be looking Michael up again. He’s a pleasure to work with and we like his simple, elegant ideas for the kitchen. You can’t do better than Michael.

If I could remodel every room in my house, I'd hire Michael every time! His approach to design is simple and elegant - this is your home, and you should love every inch of it. He helped me turn my tile nightmare into the chef's kitchen of my dream, and I couldn't be more pleased with his professionalism and follow-through. He brings wit and levity to what can be an otherwise stressful process, and I'm thrilled to recommend him - he should have his own show!

Michael did an excellent job remodeling my bathroom from the studs to the finished product. He selected a mix of high quality materials and fixtures, both off the shelf and custom, to compliment the vintage of my home. He found top notch affordable vendors for quartz surfaces and the shower glass. I am very happy with my lovely new bathroom, thanks to Piper Stone Home! Michael also worked well within my budget to help me define my style to give me a living space that is worthy of my beautiful architecturally significant 1932 house. He used modern pieces combined with those from vintage collection. It was particularly challenging because my living room is very large, long and narrow, and has many doors. Michael showed me how to take advantage of the grandeur of the room by sizing and arranging the furniture to fill the space in a functional and attractive way. We are very happy with the work that Michael did for us!
