Mid Century Stone Planter in the Living Room

Our friend has asked me to help with a redesign as a special gift for his wife (my dear friend's) birthday. Short turn around so I help help help.

The challenge is a redesign of their mid century stone planter in the living room. In the room there are a wonderful set of Kurdistan red carpets and the softest sweetest blue leather sofa "the Bentley" ever. They also have some stained glass pieces and of course the mid century classic similar stone fireplace and huge picture window.

We talked about:
water, as in a water feature, (he does like but I have no images for..)
fire, as in a smokeless fire feature (he doesn't like)
and my best idea, a handsome old tack trunk (we are horse people) with classic hardware (top or entire, retrofitted over the stone.
However, beyond Craig's and ebay not sure where to source it....

The dimensions are approx 48 3/4" long, 25" wide, 22" high
with an internal pan of 15" across and 38 3/4 long.
Other thoughts he had were to add some kind of warm lighting to this corner.
He has put a budget on it of $300-$400,
Please help?
