Raven-- I live in a no man's land between Time Warner Road Runner, six miles south, and Fios, six miles north. I am surrounded by beautiful farms and most of them are owned by Mennonites, who aren't likely to use the internet unless they run a business that demands the service. The area is sparsely populated and there is zero plan for any cable to come our way. I have to use TDS for my land phone and DSL, and DISH for TV. I am retired and have all day free most of the time. There is no competition for the poor folks living in Conquest, NY and I believe TDS takes advantage of that. Thanks for the idea of adding another fan to my tower. I do periodically clean it because I have three cats. It has run hot from the day I got it and it doesn't help that my computer and TV are located in my double wide's smallest room. I absolutely hate using a touch pad instead of a mouse, and I have a wireless mouse for my netbook when I take it on vacation. I don't do anything on my Kindle except order and read books so a lack of keyboard isn't an issue. I was hoping that a good tablet would have a touch screen so I could avoid having to use a touch pad to select programs or mail. My house is 44 feet long and the router/WiFi I have works well in all rooms. I was recently on vacation in Maine where I met up with my son from California. He is a whiz on his iPhone and I would like to be able to manipulate images the way he can on his phone. Clearly, if I wanted to write more than a few words I would go back to the PC. Other than checking email and the weather frequently throughout the day, I always check my bank accounts, credit cards and all the monthly bills I pay online. I use two to four credit cards on a daily basis because I charge everything I possible can, paying cash only to the small vendors who insist on cash payments. I always pay my credit cards in full at the end of the month, so using them doesn't cost me anything. I go for the perks offered by the cards and since I never pay any interest, any benefits I receive are totally free to me. I wait until I am eligible to receive 1% cash back and then collect my "free" money. I really think I would enjoy having a tablet with me so I can check the above mentioned information whenever I have a spare minute. It would make waiting through commercials on TV less annoying. The xoom will be the one to watch, very nice specs and big competition with what all it can do plus it will be running Android 3.0 Honeycomb. It is an awesome tablet but in the next month or so a lot of awesome Android 3.0 tablets will be hitting the market. You should have or get or make a simple diode checker. A diode is really simple. If you put voltage across it with neg and pos one way you'll see electricty flowing through the diode. If you turn the connections around you won't see any electricty. Compare that with a light bulb. No matter if you put the wires one or the other way the bulb lights. So the only resort if neither try works for you is to check the diode that it's working. It's simple. You put a meter with one lead there and theothe lead over there. IF you see a signal then you swap the leads. This time you should not see a signal. It works one way. What woudl you think if you saw a signal no matter which way you put the meter leads? The diode would be broken. You would have to replace it. What would happen if no matter which way you put the meter leads and you got no reading or signal from your test? The diode would be broken. You would have to replace it. The reason you don't just replace it is this: It's poor logical thinking. It's better to prove that it's broken so that when you put in a new one and the new one does not work either.. then you know something else is ALSO wrong. So 1. Get a meter for $10 at Sears or Harbor Freight. It will be worth it for later. Learn to use it. It's acutally fun. 2. Check the diode. You can find online how to use your meter to test the diode. When you're at the shop where you buy the meter take your diode with you if you can. If you can't then try to buy one that is approximately the same physical size. AT least it will fit mechanically. For specifications they're simple. They are usually rated at the highest current. 1 amp is typical for this kind of application. IF you hve an old door bell with a ringer and buzzer then get a 2 or 3 amp if possible. If it's electronic than anything should be OK. But get 1 amp if possible. The other spec, the voltage should be 100 volts or more. They're all this or more so no worry. 3. Test the diode. Two ways to try it. One way, then the otehr. It shold be opposite readings each way. Test the good one, first, instead. It, if it's good, will show you how the diode works. The meter puts voltage into the diode. When the diode lets electricity through the meter then the meter reads a signal. If the diode blocks the signal from getting through the meter then the meter reads nothing, 0.00 . So you've got a whole 2 weeks of electronics training in 3 paragraphs and 10 minutes. Try the diode one way, if it works you're done. If not try it the other way. If it works. .. etc. If it does not work either way then A. Check the diode again to be sure it's still OK. If not then you have a different problem It's nearly 100% sure it will be OK. B. If it doesn't work and diode is OK then get sommme more advice from only or here. You might not be getting DC or AC voltage from the bell's transformer. We'll be guessing at that point. Huh? No, the question is what email service is the native email program (Apple Mail, in this case on a Mac) set up to connect to. That setting needs to be entered once for every so-called mail "client" app or program on a PC, Smartphone, or tablet. It has nothing to do with default program relationships for file types. Ginny, I know how to do it on ipads and iphones but not immediately on Macs. I have two Macs in the family but neither is here right now for me to look at. A Google search found the following two approaches, they differ perhaps depending on which version of Apple Mail you have. But either or a combination of the two should get you where you want to be. If these don't work, again, refer to an Apple forum. #1 To Set Up Your Apple Mail From the Mail menu, select Preferences. Go to the Accounts tab, and then click the plus sign(+) at the bottom of the Accounts box. In the Add Account window, enter your full name, email address and email password. Click Continue. or #2 To begin, click on the Mail -> Add Account... menu. On this screen, you will be asked about the type of account you will be adding to the application. Select the last option - Add Other Mail Account...Continue button. Now, simply add your name, email address and the password for it. ++++++++++++++++++++ Edited to add As a quick alternative, just start your browser (Safari), go to and log into gmail, compose a new message and then add the photo as an attachment. You'll need to know the location of the photo on the PC to do that and you probably can do a drag and drop for attaching it.
