Hi, I'm in the UK and just found this forum after searching for any potential insight into what amount of water specifically to use to make up Rachels Lemon & Pink Grapefruit Marmalade (as this is not specified...and so I could be out by a mile and put the whole expensive recipe in jeopardy). I read with interest many of the comments from folk worried about how best to process their cooked jam. Here in the UK our system is far more simplistic and more commonly done with a one piece lid where (and as akin to irenecalgary) we pour the hot jam into hot jars before sealing with hot lids and immediately inverting them for 10 mins before placing back upright whilst they cool off. In the case of strawberry jam and marmalades etc we would allow the mix to cool dlightly such that the fruit does not rise to the surface in the jar This is effectively the way our Grandmothers have always made jams (outside of those who still opt for an even simpler wax disc system covered in cloth in place of a lid) and we consider this as perfectly safe. If on the offchance a jar is discovered to contain a covering of white mold (rare to middling) on opening then its chucked out..simple as. If I was taught an entirely different way then i'd no doubt be more likely to fly that flag. For the record, I quite fancy the idea of canning certain foodstuffs containing meat and vegetables but we can't buy a Pressure Canner without importing one as canning is not so much practised in the UK. Again, horses for courses.

Although I've never seen a Modular home constructed I'd assume this to be normal. I seriously doubt that the integrity of the walls were compromised. Rather you'd be looking at stress cracks in sheetrock due to the lifting, placement, and fastening of modules. I'm confident that with some Liquid Nails adhesive and long course thread screws these gaps between modules would be tightened up and never reappear. Note, I have no direct knowledge of modular construction but have a comprehensive knowledge of swimming pool and pool house (standard framed) construction. My experience has always been that a structure which has generated cracks in the sheetrock have been from settling out of level at the base of the structure. I've seen this settling on both monolithic concrete foundations and footers under joisted sub flooring. As long as your slab stays put I wouldn't expect the cracks to reappear. See ya, Kelly

Larry it sounds like your being more than reasonable. Are you going through the "Pella Store" or Pella the manufacturer? The Pella Stores are independent of the manufacturer and only use the name to sell their product. The set up stores in various parts of the larger towns. The manufacturer usually runs their program out of one of their distribution centers that serve your area. I can see the Pella Store making this mistake easily. Sounds like someones commission checks going to be a little less than expected next month. In most cases the installer is required to make the final measurements before ordering the windows. Then the monkey sits squarely on our backs if it's wrong. Funny thing is, masonry openings are the easiest most straight forward measure there is. "Brick to Brick" minus some adjustment widths are pretty simple in my book. But we all have that occasional bonehead slip from time to time. We just have to fess up to the mistake when we do it. My rule of thumb is always making the window to the size where the existing interior trim fits right back where it came from. Without making any modifications to the frame in the field. If I can pull that off every time I'm happy & the customer usually has no complaints. If something isn't right you always need to catch it before you do the tear-out of the old. We always check our product before we load up for the day. It's not very fun to have the customer seeing you say "oops". Stand tall and good luck!!!

James- hi! I did a remodel and the original builder (since fired )paid no attention to the fact that we wanted to paint the windows black with mullions even though we spent a fortune on rounded sheetrock returns and he knew it. Our windows were ordered with the jamb too short (and not thin enough to be pretty painted black- like an in between 3” jamb on a 5” wall) so a jamb extension was done by the trim carpenter that didn’t quite line up well and now I have NO idea what to do. It is such a mess! Also, didn’t you find it hard… I want to do white dove wall with simply white base molding, but I’m not sure if I need to then paint the wood that joins the windows white dove or simply white.. with the mullions black! It’s almost like I might be forced to do a white dove base molding. How did you handle that??
