Lukkirish, I canoot upload any pictures, if I do, my computer will explode. I'm on strict orders not to uploand for this reason. However, when my daughter comes home from school today, I'll ask her to take a couple of pictures with her camera and upload them on her computer to this thread. Bronwynsmom: I do not want a trite look for this bathroom, although I am a lover of pink. When I hang dry all of my clothing it's pretty much pinks, lovely greens, and blacks with a blue something thrown in, plus of course denim. I appreciate the advice. Especially on the white trim. Someone up-thread told me to match the cabinetry, which is a fairly stark white, so that is a good thing. Is the best way to compare whites to go to the paint store and look at the sample chips under the flourescent lighting fixtures at that display? I do want a soft white... softer than the cabinets. What makes a white "soft" looking? That Ballard bedroom is gorgeous, Pink Fairy is a really lovely shade of pink as well. It is gorgeous with all of the beige/taupe trim and accent pieces. And again I'm seeing it a large, airy room. My bathroom is small and stuffed with things like sinks and cabinets. Is there a rule about what color does when you bring it into a smaller room and you are standing close to it? I would think that, to the eye, the color is intensified. Oh dear. I am feeling so undecided. I put another coat of the Polyshades on last night and it does look nice now -- dark and even. But it definitely is "mahogany" -- deep, dark red. Not the espresso color I had envisioned. But I am now hesitant to start putting on other products and other colors. I'm worried that it will look uneven, or that I will just end up with a mess. Arg -- this is what I get for being impulsive and not doing enough research up front. Anyway, I am heading out to a music festival today, so I am going to take a break from obsessing about stain and see how I feel when I get home. Maybe I will just put the new hardware in and see how I feel about it once the tile is in. The overall impression of the room is more important than the precise shade of stain on the vanity, right? Although -- I suspect that I will have a hard time finding a wall cabinet (for over the vanity) to match this stain color -- I've looked around and there is a lot of "espresso" and white (and still a bit of golden oak). Maybe a "cherry" cabinet would co-ordinate, if not match. Anyway, I need to get my mind off all this for a few hours. Have a good weekend, everyone!

Christy, either because I'm a congenital dunce, or I've lost brain cells painting all day (probably both), I couldn't come up with any pics when I searched "cburch". Did I do that right? Without seeing it...first off, I love the idea of the suede finish on the walls. I've never used it, but I like it a lot. Does it handle moisture and drips well, and is it scrubbable? I think I can picture your lay-out. I had a hall bath like that in a previous house. Hubby used the MBR bath, I used the one in the hall, and it was closest to the public spaces, so guests used it, too. I chose to paint it one or two (don't remember) "chips" lighter than the predominant color in our living room, so the house seem tied together for guests, etc. So, I like your idea of choosing either one of the other colors you've used, or one of the colors from a color card you've used. That feels cohesive, to me. It sounds like you have some really pretty colors in the house to work from. Of them...This is just my own opinion, but I would personally avoid the taupe family in a small room without windows. Taupe is beautiful in the right setting, but (again, JMO) can get muddy if natural light is low. The yellow/gold tones will be warm and cozy on dreary or cold (if you live in the North) winter mornings. That's nice, but remember they'll make the walls advance. Something related to the sage you've used elsewhere will make the walls recede, green being a cool color, so you may like that since the room seems small to you. Something sagey will also look nice with the silver/nickel tone fixtures you're thinking of and the off-white ceramics. I would just go lighter on the sage color card, rather than darker (again, only my personal preference). If you want something different, another family I think would go nicely with your yellow/gold/sages would be something in a terra cotta. But maybe, since you're having a hard time deciding, you would do better to approach this from the other direction. Pick out either a shower curtain first, one that makes you swoon, or towels and a bath rug in delicious colors, or pretty ceramic or pottery accessories that you just love. Take the paint cards with the colors that appear in your house and go shopping for one or more of those things first. Find something that works with the rest of your house palette. If you do it that way, you should then be able to find something among your house colors (or one or two steps up or down) that you'll just know is right. I know what you mean re not replacing the towel bars. First of all, once they have the towels on them, they don't show much, anyway. Plus...it's always a bear to find the studs ;-). I'm late to this thread, but I'm so glad you're going with restoration. The tile and fixtures are fantastic. A restored-height ceiling, better light fixtures, paint, shower door and a no-frill window covering (simple roman shade? )will go a long way towards making it a sharp, current-looking retro bathroom. I've been staring at the photos trying to decide what wall color would look good. We recently redid the bathroom in our 1912 (or so) bungalow and painted it a matte black, albeit with a white shower, floor and board and batten wainscot paneling. I was worried that black would be very dark and confining, but it isn't at all. I don't know if it would work with the pink tile, but it might look cool. Is the floor tile pattern off just inside the door?
