Sofa Color- Solid or Pattern?
Comments (5)It's always easier to "match" a solid than a print. I have nothing against printed fabric for upholstered pieces, but whenever I've encountered them they've always been per the designer's request and in beautiful harmony with the draperies I delivered. KISS, my friend. Keep It Simple Stupid. Go with the solid color, you'll be glad you did. This is especially important if you're young, on a limited budget, and are planning to relocate in the notso-distant future (buy decent quality upholstered pieced!). Pick a basic palette for your upholstered pcs. and stick with it. It's a lot easier to work with a suite of pieces in the same basic color palette than trying to integrate the same suite in a variety of patterns. :)...See Moreparallel sofa- update, questions with pictures
Comments (5)With all that symmetry of the seating area, I like the idea of asymmetry on the wall. Here's what I would suggest: The painting can be hung where you want it, but I would add the smaller picture that's leaning against the right wall on the table underneath it. That will help to bring balance to that negative space. The big picture's center should be about 60" from the floor, then hang the other picture a couple inches underneath. Then you may want to bring the bookshelf a little more to the left so that the elements of the vignette all have relation to each other. I would then hang the other 2 pictures where you have them over the bookcase. Then in the orange vase I would get a big ole tree branch that arcs to the left & put that in there to add some dimension. Assuming you were going to hang the pic leaning on the right wall on that right wall, I would instead get a floor lamp for that area (since you'll now have the bookcase further to the left, or, ideally, a wall mounted light fixture (see link) I would add a 5x8 area rug under the sofas to pull everything together. Maybe a sisal for added texture without making the area look chaotic & keep the focus on the artwork. And one for the dining area as well if an 8x10 or 11 would fit. I like the idea of 2 floral covers on the dining chairs. What are your plans for decor on the table??? And, as an aside, I would replace the unsightly chair leg pads with something that fits better on the bottom of the legs - felt stick on dots of all kinds of sizes are available at Wal-Mart. (And hopefully you've gotten a razor blade & scraped the sloppy paint off the door!!! :-) Do you still have draperies on the window??? I would suggest something much simpler like natural roman shades. I would take the plant off the cocktail table (is this cocktail table/bench all one piece or are they 2 pieces???) & put that on your dining table. Can you take more expansive pics of the 2 rooms??? ~Jeana Here is a link that might be useful: Swing Arm Lamp...See MoreFloral sofas and oriental rugs
Comments (2)An oriental-type rug would work very well if you choose colors that are present in your sofa fabric. I wouldn't choose something too geometric but on the other hand would not go with a very realistic flower pattern either because that would be rather boring. The size of the main elements in the rug should be either larger or smaller than the sofa fabric. The main factor as stated is to repeat one or two main colors from your sofa in the carpet. Traditional English interiors have used floral chintzes and oriental rugs together for ages with great success....See MoreRed floral couch - rug suggestions?
Comments (27)Hi Bunty, we are all just guessing here as we have no real clues on what direction you want to go in decorating with your floral sofa. Anyway, hopefully you will get some ideas of possibilities. I really like the simple green marble top coffee table but would put a cool light colored vintage look tray on top so the green marble just peeks through. P.S It's difficult to see the "real" red-ish rose or Red color on the sofa due to shaddows so the reds in accessories or art in my mock-up could be changed to something more suitable....See MoreRelated Professionals
