How many/often do you normally seat for a meal or a dinner party, formal or informal, how big is your space, etc? My favourite tables are called "Irish Georgian Wake Tables." They run to tens of thousands for a real table from Ireland made in the late 1700s to early 1800s, but modern ones are a lot less. They're endlessly versatile, lovely to sit small or larger groups at, easy to decorate, and when not in use they sit tidily against a wall, great for a buffet or fork supper. They come in numerous styles, too, of course. Your chairs (which are wonderful to look at, so I hope they're comfortable!) would lend themselves to the elegant simplicity of Irish/Scottish Georgian furniture, more than, say, Elizabethan or its later knock-off iterations, which are generally heavy and dark. I wouldn't upholster them in any sort of light-coloured fabric, if you want it to stay pristine. ;)

I know this post is over a year old... Wanted to compliment you on your choice of Table! I have a 48" Round Pedastal Table that has a huge leaf! I live in a small aprtment in the city and love the fact that my table is compact for everyday but can accomodate guests. I am on the hunt for an 8' ROUND rug fo rmy table and came across your post! GREAT CHOICE in RUG! You were asking for advice on any other improvements as well... I absolutley love that sideboard area...Was thinking instead of the cute ledges with pictures...I can't help but feel that corner is screaming for some reflection and light... How about a tall arched mirror..or even a rectangular window type mirror... (Link: Arched Mirror, Another Choice...)a little less wide than the buffet and tall in scale... and a cute accent/buffet lamp would be awesome! It could offer some beautiful reflection and some accent lighting... Just a thought. I have found some really cool mirrors at Hobby Lobby and Homegoods! What a beautiful space! I love the fireplace...I also love the clock over the fireplace... I'm a huge clock person...AND Its in a very practical place! The room is about 7 1/2 x 12... so it's pretty narrow. I was thinking if I put the table and a banquette booth against the far left wall, it would open up the space more. I've seen some pics of a similar layout and I didn't see any with rugs under the table. 1. Is the banquette idea good/bad?, 2. Keep rug and just put under table if a banquette or kill rug all together? Thanks all

Thank you so much for the feedback everyone :) . We ont need a 6 seater regularly, but I get a little worried about maintenance with tables with a leaf, would the connections get dirty ? I have a toddler who can get very messy :). It looks like the consensus is 54 , what are your thought on round vs square ?
