Comments (5)It's not impossible but highly unlikely. The only true way to prove identty is to grow a correctly named cultivar beside the suspect. A line-up! They will branch identically and open at the same time, etc. A slight angle change can widen falls (or standards). Some cameras have more barrel distortion which will do that automatically. I look particularly at beards and hafts. And the "feel" of an iris. It would certainly be helpful if pictures of a stalk showing bud/flower placement were available. Unfortunately height can vary from year to year. Drought can affect the size of the bloom. Many variables. I'd label this iris as "probably Albicans". Measure height again this spring and note its branching. Happy hybridizing!...See MoreI don't think I can do this any more
Comments (53)Marti8a ~ Between the oppressive heat, my determination *not* to run up the water bill, and my lower back pain . . . I made the deliberate decision to let the entire backyard go last summer. In the past 3 weeks (since the tornadoes & hail), I've spent more time in the yard than I did all of 2011! Lots of storm debris, but lots and lots of 2011 weeds and leaves. I strongly 2nd someone's earlier recommendation that you employ a lawn service for a season (month, summer, year) -- you can select the $$ or type or method of service. So they could weed or they could napalm or they could use only organic . . . its your choice. But this will kickstart the project until it gets to a level you can manage. I did the same thing with a cleaning service last year -- I've never used a cleaning service before, but things had gotten out of control (both cleaning & life in general), so we did a one-time turbo clean for the kitchen, one bathroom and the living area, and I'm so glad I did. ~ freshair...See MoreOMG, don't think I will ever have the stomach for these
Comments (10)Hey, I've already eaten bugs. And what is a lobster, really, other than a giant bug! When Ashley was in elementary school I chaperoned a trip to the museum where one of the boys bought a cricket encased in a lollipop. Soon the lollipop was gone and it was pretty much down to the cricket, no one on the bus would eat the cricket. I asked the owner if he wasn't going to eat the cricket, he'd paid good money for it. His reply? "You eat the cricket. I dare you.". Well, for anyone who has ever chaperoned a bus full of third graders you know you can never let them see you flinch so I never hesitated. I ate the cricket. Ashley graduated from high school and her friends would still say "Remember when your Mom ate that cricket?" Annie...See MoreHELP!!! Throwing a party and I don't know what to do..
Comments (4)Why can't your husband watch the kids? Arrange your party to be on a day (or weekend) he has off. I would suggest you have some drinks which contrast with the sweets. I especially like a somewhat sour lemonaid or strong black coffee with chocolate. The contrast in flavors really brings out the best in both. For games you could do Pictionary or Taboo. Or, depending upon the personalities of the party, Blind Date (a silly girls game about BOYS!!!!). I have a book which could be fun as a conversation. IF by Evelyn McFarlane & James Saywell. It has questions like "If you could decide how many times a year you saw your own parents, how often would it be?...If you could be given a personal tour of any Hollywood celebrity's house, whose would you want to see?...If the world were to tun to one single source of energy tomorrow, what would you want it to be?...If you could live in a past era just so you could wear the clothes in fashion at the time, when would it be?" This could be a lot of fun with a bunch of friends....See MoreRelated Professionals
