Calling All Cottage Home Lovers - What Interior Doors & Knobs
Comments (22)Oh, my3dogs--I just LOVE that front door. I have a 30's cape (unfortunately it's not in New England--it's in a MD suburb of DC!!!) but as a displaced New Englander I pretend :) Anyway, you've got me wondering what I'd find if I stripped the 70 years worth of paint off my front door (it's a beautiful door and we just added another coat of paint!) This may get added to my list of projects for a rainy day (or several rainy days!) In answer to the OP's question--I'm thinking a variety of closely related doors would be nice--rather than going with one style throughout. We're only the second owners of our house and I know the doors are all original--and we have a bit of a variety. Several with the barn door cross hatch look, most others with 6 panels..but our front has 12 small panes of glass and our kitchen door to the mudroom has 6 long skinny panes of glass. I guess what I'm saying is a little quirkiness would fit well :) Our hardware is mostly the original tarnished brass with a little glass in a couple of places....See MoreInterior door knobs, yes, it's home decor, lol
Comments (5)I'm on the laptop now, ipad hinders me but its easier, lol! FYI: I overthink things all the time so you just have to bear with me. Sorry folks! lol Hubby doesn't want levers because they catch on his pant pockets sometimes. Valid point for dummy knobs on those 4 closet doors. It took me a while to adjust to the idea of knobs but I like egg shape the most. I'm liking the Weslock Julienne in ORB. Its a bit over budget. https://t.build.com/products/s95750 Then I ran across this design but haven't found much on the brand. I like that it comes in solid black. https://t.build.com/products/s438134 I want to stay in the vintage/old fashioned look. I don't want a Tuscan style. Suggestions would be deeply appreciated! I am spending way too much time thinking about this but I want the hallway to look great. Its kind of sad that I don't even have anything hung up, lol....See MoreUsing antique crystal door knobs as cabinet knobs?
Comments (9)Amanda, it all depends on the kind of spindle the knobs use. If it's the kind with screw threads on all 4 sides of the square shaft, you can probably cut it down with a hacksaw and use a large nut tightened on the back side, inside the door. You'd need to enlarge the knob hole in the cab with a drill. But if they're the kind with square spindles where the knob stays on with a screw through little holes on the shaft, I'm not sure how you'd do it. The knobs need to be set on the shaft with their set screws to stay put; unless you use some kind of super glue they won't stay on a simple dowel. Hmm. Comments (0)Such a wonderful group in here and so far have had a lot of help to finish a new home build We are looking to pick out doorknobs for our interior doors. Do people use the same colors on doorknobs throughout a home or can you mix and match depending on the room? Our trim will be white and so will our interior doors. But I have a lot of bronze lighting and other bronze accents in my home. I am planning on using the oil rubbed bronze on all doors that are in the hallways on both floors throughout the build. For instance: My kitchen cabinets are to be two-toned. We will have some cabinets in cream with glaze and some in brown stain. In there I am thinking of doing all rubbed oil bronze pulls and for the built-ins across the way in the great room. I have other built-ins in a sitting room that will have similar cabinet pulls in oil rubbed bronze. We will have a lot of pocket doors so I know I don't need a ton of door knobs in our home. However, in particular 2 bathrooms we are doing have polished chrome in them so I was thinking of doing polished chrome handles on the linen closet on one of those (I don't see a problem in there) and then an interior bath door that you only see from that bedroom. However, the guest bedroom has the bathroom door right inside the bedroom where I was thinking of doing all polished chrome to match the bath fixtures. Should I do the bedroom door that faces the bedroom in chrome when the door is shut but do the exterior of the door facing the hall in oil rubbed bronze? Or should I just do both in oil rubbed bronze and leave it at that as that is how I will be finishing off the other bedrooms upstairs. Our last home had chrome in the bathrooms only and even one door was chrome on one side and polished brass on the other side that showed towards the hall. I was just wondering if this was normal or not....See MoreSmith & Robertson, Inc.
