Please help me decorating my living room!!
Comments (39)You have pretty things to work with, Love. If you find a seagrass or neutral type rug, a pretty patterned chair would look so charming! You can accent with patterned throw pillows as well. Do you have something that could be used for a focal point? Maybe your piano?? As "Bannie" mentioned, I have a similar room and used a faux FP as the focal point. Then I added a round mirror and small sconces. Excuse my old pix, but hopefully they will help you. This will be such a fun project for you!!...See MorePlease help me with my living room...nothing looks right
Comments (23)First -- let me add a BIG vote for placing a TV within the bookshelves -- and using the cabinet bebeath it to hide the usual cables and equipment. Next -- first I really did like the ruby glass in the original photo -- the color worked very well with the artwork. The art was very nice -- both in its vertical placing and its shape and size. You simply needed to spread out the red accents and add lots of books (both in side-by-side AND in stacks) BUT -- if you feel like a change -- after you have installed the TV -- consider replacing the artwork with a dark-framed round mirror. The round shape would break up the strong vertical and horizontal lines. The other thing to consider would be to paint out the brass accent lines on the fireplace doors. Use very, very fine sandpaper, then sand VERY lightly, clean VERY well -- and paint over these lines using barbecue or high heat paint. Removing these strong visual elements will bring the viewer's eye back up to the shelves themselves. So -- I would concentrate on creating the TV area FIRST -- and then work on the shelving (and maybe the round mirror and the fireplace doors)....See Moreplease help me make my living room less "cold" feeling .
Comments (6)The built-in is beautiful. I have never seen an application like that. Unfortunately, it only accentuates the vault and all that wall with NOTHING. SOOO much wall and really nothing to be done with it. Interesting visual--your clocks, but I think they would make a bigger statement if displayed closer together. To me shelves are for books--mostly so I want to see a few of yours with some books, just because that is expected. The larger couch does appear to be too far away to really watch TV from. What is behind it? Is that a wall? Perhaps moving it in a closer L with the love seat would cozy things up and give you a new space for a games table or sofa table?...See MorePlease, help me design my living room
Comments (7)Just some random thoughts: a) don't think you can push the bookcases together without altering the molding at the top. An alternative is to separate them and create a bridge over top which could span a love seat...add lighting into the top of the bridge. b) I'd group the furniture around the window and the solid wall so as not to have to put a traffic pattern through the center of the conversational cluster c) recessed lighting can be unattractive unless it's used near the edges of the room with deliberate purpose to highlight drapes, artwork, etc. They do make smaller cans now too that I think are better looking. But good lighting is essential to making any space look well and functioning well. But if you are having electrical work done, you might want to do a good layout and then look into have a floor outlet added so you could add a lamp and side table to a chair or two that would float in the arrangement d) that large window is lovely but looks like privacy would be an issue at night so consider drapery treatments for it and how that might work with your plants. Also, depending on what region you are in, insulating needs might be an important consideration....See MoreWendy
