^^^^ YES I did a google search to find a solution to melted polyester on a glass fireplace front and found this thread. I started with Weiman's Glass Cook Top cleaner, a paper towel and an old credit card for scraping. This took off a lot of it, but a thin, visible layer that I could feel with my hand remained. I took the advice of jk171400 and used a heat gun and razor blade paint scraper to get that last layer off, followed by a quick wipe with a paper towel. Towards the end, I was using the heat gun less and relying more on the scraper. Once you get the angle of the scraper right, it scrapes it right off. I went at it until I could run my hand across the glass and it was smooth. Success!

I had a friend of mine several years ago who gave themself a thorough cleaning of the bowels with the exact same dilemma with a gas fireplace that was a week old. The gas company couldn't figure it out and neither could the company who sold them the POS. What was happening was the fake ceramic logs that came with the fireplace were crumbling apart pretty fast. The dust and debris was falling on the burner. After doing this for a while it finally got to the point that a considerable amount of gas was filling up the burners but where the pilot was was pretty clogged. So when enough gas filled the compartment BOOM it light off alright! And sent the glass clear across the room. So much for a romantic evening in front of the fireplace when you got a load of poopy pants. I would never have one of those things in my house. In this day of energy conservation its like 10 steps backwards.

yes and no Ventless gas fireplaces are banned in some areas, restricted in others, not regulated in others. The concern is carbon monoxide. We had 2 in different properties, took them out and replaced with sealed direct vent gas fireplaces, worried about carbon monoxide. IF you have an existing masonry wood-burning chimney you can usually use gas logs with the flue open for venting, you would have to verify locally. Some people build beautiful masonry wood-burning fireplaces with chimneys just so they could open the flue and have a gas log set installed, to avoid the glass front of a direct-vent gas fireplace. As far as taking a sealed vented gas fireplace unit and removing the glass, no.

OK, What you have is called a direct vent gas fireplace. These things are built with finely tuned burner systems that are designed ONLY for the logs that came with them. Unless you are lucky that it is a model that was also designed to have the option of glass or some other media, you cannot safely change the burner system or logs in any way. There is no product made to retrofit into this type of fireplace other than what the manufacturer has tested and made for it. To determine if the manufacturer made any other options, find the make and model number and google it to locate the owners manual. It looks like you can see the label inside on the bottom. All of the options will be listed in the owners manual. Read it carefully so you understand the appliance. This comes from someone having been in the fireplace business for over 30 years. Be safe.
