Thanks for all the great suggestions. :) I should have mentioned this room will be shared between my almost 5 yr old and my 3 yr old. My 5 yr old has expressed her love for "purple". Her big sisters bedroom is lavender and she has said before how she wishes her bedroom was "purple".. even though she asked for pink when we first moved in just a year ago!! Which she got! But I have to switch the bedrooms around anyway because we have a new addition to the family.. another girl! So 5 girls, 1 boy, and he has the bigger bedroom, it would have worked out if we had another boy but I took my chances and now I need to switch things up! Also.. something to consider.. the room I am working with has oak trim, doors, and window frames. I'd rather not paint it because to do it right is a bit more work then I can take on right now. I know because I painted my oldest daughters trim and her room is much smaller. It's a big job! It is what it is. Hopefully it will still look pretty and my girls will love it. If it helps I can share a picture of the room. As I already mentioned, it's my 6 yr old boys bedroom right now. The walls are painted a cream color (Behr Raffia Cream) with one dark brown wall (Behr Butternut Wood).

Jillius-- I think I'm getting a bit too obsessed with GW, as I cut-and-pasted your link to Monet's kitchen wondering if I'd missed the reveal or if it took place before I discovered this site. After a brief moment of bewilderment I realized it was THAT Monet. :) I'm on the side of liking yellow (though THAT Monet's is a bit over the top), but our KD thinks it'd be too 'cutesy' with a red vintage stove so is advocating grey cabinets and white tile. I'm thinking maybe soft, buttercream cabinets might work. Fabfivefigs, I really like the yellow tiles, so I'd vote for keeping them with maybe a soft grey paint to tie in with the counter and the open shelves the same color as the cabinets. Thank you justerrilynn..I loved it too but it seems now I see the shortcomings more:) (interestingly, opposite from my own photographs-the older I become the more I'm puzzled why I was displeased with them then lol) Anglophilia I had a yellow-gray plaid trenchcoat when very little!..it was probably too good, too dressy, since they rarely let me wear it..and then I grew up and it became too small)) Now though I have a very vivid yellow rain jacket, bought on sale in St Petersburg when August weather there suddenly turned into late October lol..strangely works well..but it was made in Germany blahblah..the quality is superb It was 2010 though..maybe they also went down in quality since then lol ah back to yellow. again when I was very little-somebody gave me three or four remnants of yellow velvet fabric..tiny but enough to imagine it being a blanket for a doll or something I think I never recovered from it. They were so rich and luxurious and pretty and, well, velvet-y... I think I still remember all my toys, dolls, and their clothes. Which takes precious space in my brain since I'm bad with numbers and historical dates.. Great thread..I love looking at all the rooms and colors and reading everybody's stories.

That thundercloud is an awesome color. Try that. Before you start changing things, please get a cohesive plan. What do you want the end product to be? Putting new countertops on old cabinets can look like putting lipstick on a pig. Best to know what the end result will be, then you can make informed decisions. And not come back here with a HELP me correct my errors!!! I don't think your flooring will support a white quartz. I think it may have too much beige in it.
