Wraparound or Folded Glass Window - Where Do I Get One?
Comments (10)I don't think it's load-bearing - in my window the whole central post is a wood 4" x 4" and deeply recessed on both sides, but how do I know for sure? (I'll try to get pics of the actual window up soon). Wow, Marvin Windows and Doors makes a corner unit made of a single sheet of glass with a small-radius curve at the corner - not even a thin line where the two flat panels of glass join (page 3 of this PDF). That's a "bent glass" corner? But I don't see many vendors for either type. Who can sell me a butt glazed corner window in the eastern US? It's about 4' tall, and each side is 3' wide. I'll settle for a thin strip at the intersection; don't want to spend a fortune (though I would have sprung for the expensive bent glass if I had the view like the one I showed!). How much more $ are we talking about for butt glazed vs. 4x4" post?...See MoreAlternatives to bi-fold closet doors?
Comments (25)kudzu, there are no jambs. The pivot base is screwed right into the top and bottom of the door opening on the problem door; thus into the wood under the drywall at the top, and into the wood floor at the bottom. I just went and checked it. The base is secure top and bottom. It's the metal pivot going into the door that is wobbling. The door starts tilting at the top, where it starts hitting the side of the door opening at the top. When the people installing the doors installed them, I guess they didn't know that a solid door needed more. I ordered the doors custom made so I could stain them to match my kitchen, and they did say they'd never seen anything like them. Last time he replaced them, my husband just went to Menard's and bought them, so I don't know if they were labeled for load capacity. Said if these failed, we were out of options. That's got to be it. Thank you so much for telling me about this! These are just too flimsy for the load of the solid wood oak door we bought. The door is tilting again. What kind of load capacity should I be looking for? Should I just weigh the door when we take it off? Can you get a variety of ones with different loads at a common home improvement store, or is this something I will need to order?...See MoreTricky Triangular Windows - Who Can Make Shades??
Comments (16)So is there another window under there or is it all wall space? Can't tell from your pic what the finished look will be. If there will be wall space underneath, the only thing I can think of that could be operable would be bottom up shades. You might consider having someone come in and measure rather than an online site. eta: I don't really know of any places online. You may have to go thru a workroom or designer for specialty shades....See Morewater leak under window. any ideas of the source?
Comments (64)Ok. I really appreciate the feedback. You seem very knowledgeable. It is insane weather right now in Michigan and I am trying to picture what they are going to do to fix the window right now. If your right and Anderson decides to take out the IG unit, is that something that impossible with 0 degree weather? Or does that mean they just order a new window itself? I guess I am just wishing this was all over and I didn’t have any more leaks. At least the rain stopped and it turned to ice for this week. I wonder what people do with water coming in. Do you think water is only coming in the sill area? Or do you think it’s actually in my walls? Thanks for any more thoughts....See More- 11 years ago
