In your search for another rug, use the term 'flat weave'. I have 2 turkish kilims that I no longer use mainly due to the problems ingrid mentioned. Ours was in a high traffic area and we were always catching the edges as we walked over it. That is a beautiful rug and it's worth trying it with table and chairs in place before making major changes or buying another rug. My dining room rug doesn't quite center under my chandelier, due to built-ins, but with the table centered under the light fixture no one notices the location of the rug. I wouldn't worry about the areas where fringe and edges of the rug touch the walls. Placing a pad under the rug will help keep the edges in position.
