Interesting how each situation is a bit different. We have a partially wooded back yard and tons of squirrels, probably because my wife feeds them and the birds each morning. They rarely dig into the lawn, though. I don't like trapping because what happens if there are babies in the nest? My new neighbor is a fireworks fanatic and lit off a bunch of large fireworks when he first moved in. The next day about 5 of our regular squirrels had burn marks on them and one was maimed so bad he looked shell shocked and couldn't walk right. We let the guy know what happened and he stopped lighting fireworks in a wooded area. We had a family of foxes move in to a neighbor's yard a couple of years ago and while they do scare off the squirrels, they don't get rid of them. BTW, foxes will not attack anybody, dogs, etc. They just want to eat squirrels and chipmunks. Of course the wife is feeding the foxes now so they don't go after the squirrels. I disagree with doing that but she doesn't listen to me, lol. They got mange so we fed them a course of medicine, but other than that I think nature should be left alone.

I've always wanted to see a bobcat in the wild but never have, even with many years of camping and hiking. Although my neighborhood isn't particularly wild, except for the occasional BBQ that gets out of hand, we do have deer wander up frequently. I've been pretty lucky and not had much damage but our friends across the street gave up on their roses because the deer kept eating the buds off. Kate

Sub-Detroit the fox squirrels are being pushed out by the black phase gray squirrels. I noticed that during the very cold part of winter the Fox squirrels are not as active as the gray squirrels. Mostley maple trees in my yard but I do have a Paw-Paw tree that is just getting gentiried and produces fruit prolificly and the Black-phase Gray squirrels hav discoverd the fruit and really is a bummer I didn't get one fruit to eat last fall.

Hi all, Here's something I read in the Bryan Eagle. Might be of help to y'all trying to save your pecan crop. It's from Neil Sperry. "Use sheet metal to keep squirrels off pecan trees Posted 4 days ago Dear Neil: We have a good crop of pecans this year. Is there anything we can do to deter the squirrels? A. I face the same issues, as do commercial pecan producers. If a pecan tree is free-standing, that is, not touching other trees, power lines, etc., you can put a sheet metal collar in place around its trunk. Keep it loose so that it won't girdle the tree over time. Much better yet, affix it so that you can put it in place in early summer and remove it after all of the pecans are down in late fall. Other than that, there is nothing legal that you can do. I personally don't do anything to harm my squirrels. We always have enough pecans to share. Things like reflective strips, fake owls, etc. may work for a short time, but eventually the squirrels catch on." Lucy

I thought it looked more like a fox, until I looked again and saw the acorn...so I deleted my answer and changed it to squirrel.

I got it at Michael's, but maybe I should mail it to you since I bought it, thinking it was a fox (giving it to a person named fox). You can have a foxy squirrel. I like that better than a squirrelly fox.

I rather wondered if I asked what animal is this, rather than a leading question, how many others would've said fox? Heh!

Squirrel. Foxes generally have a longer, more defined nose. Fox ornament for comparison. I don’t know why yours has such a short tail unless it was to make it less likely to break off.
