Squirrel because he‘s holding an acorn. But the tail doesn’t look fluffy enough for squirrel

This year we've had an influx of birds. I think the reason is that we have a number of shrubs that are maturing and starting to produce more and more fruit. We don't have a feeder filled at all, just filling up the bird bath. I counted 7 robins yesterday and there's at least one pair of catbirds, and an oriole stopped by the other day. All of them are hanging around the vegetable garden and bird bath. I was watching them with the binoculars this morning and the catbird pair was hopping in and out of the patch of Cilantro, pecking away at what I imagine are insects. Same pair was having a good time all around the cabbage plants. I don't have any seedlings per se to damage, and I'd be surprised if they were doing more than just looking for insects. My only concern is the droppings that are showing up on the foliage of some of the plants.

I've always wanted to see a bobcat in the wild but never have, even with many years of camping and hiking. Although my neighborhood isn't particularly wild, except for the occasional BBQ that gets out of hand, we do have deer wander up frequently. I've been pretty lucky and not had much damage but our friends across the street gave up on their roses because the deer kept eating the buds off. Kate

In my area, KCMO, our fox and gray squirrels are interbreeding. Makes for some strange combinations. Gray squirrels with or without white bellys. Fox colored with white bellies and gray heads. Gray patches of fur on the rumps. The body sizes range from about 6 inches to 10-12 inches. It looked weird to see a squirrel hanging upside down on a bird feeder with one of the same coloration on the next feeder that appeared a quarter size of the biggie.

They can be big or small, wiry or not, bearded or not, black or brown, as long as they pass all four very stringent field tests. He's a versatile hunting dog, and will point, retrieve, and blood tract any game, furred or feathered, from a quail to a bear. We now have his six-month-old great-nephew living with us too. Here's Harry, 6 years old and 78 lbs. on the left, and Sam, 54 lbs. at 6 months, together. Harry is my heart. He's the best dog in the world. He's gentle, sweet, always wanting to please, loves everyone, doesn't know a stranger, loves babies, loves tiny puppies, and is as gentle as a lamb. Sam is...well Sam is Sam. LOL I love him too, but he'll never fill Harry's pawprints. Sam is sweet and doesn't know a stranger, either. He's just so "Sam."

I thought it looked more like a fox, until I looked again and saw the acorn...so I deleted my answer and changed it to squirrel.

I got it at Michael's, but maybe I should mail it to you since I bought it, thinking it was a fox (giving it to a person named fox). You can have a foxy squirrel. I like that better than a squirrelly fox.

I rather wondered if I asked what animal is this, rather than a leading question, how many others would've said fox? Heh!

Squirrel. Foxes generally have a longer, more defined nose. Fox ornament for comparison. I don’t know why yours has such a short tail unless it was to make it less likely to break off.
