Hi . I’m in the final stages of planning my kitchen and need help deciding - its a U shaped kitchen with a 36inch range centered on a 16ft wall - am i better off with a combination of 33/18 on each side of the range or 30/21? i will have 3 other sets of 30 inch drawers and 2 sets of 24 inches. any thoughts? thanks for your help

Wider than 33 is even better for pan storage and most other items because the inside dimensions are the real measure of what can easily go in. Frameless will have wider interior dimensions. 48" for pan storage with a 45" interior is very useful day-to-day. Find out what the interior dimensions of your options are and then make some matching cardboard boxes to see what works for you.

Thanks dan1888 - we will have frameless. That is a smart idea abou the cardboard boxes - will have to see if I can try that out. My current kitchen is tiny so hard to imagine having so much space to put things - everything seems like more than enough space and hard to know what is the optimal plan

Thanks BeverlyFLADezine - my technical skills are somewhat lacking :)

will try to add the elevations. The island has an oven on the right side and a pull out trash in the left corner. I am considering turning the 2 sets of 24 drawers to face the range.

Thanks for any advice or thoughts.

What about a 4 drawer stack. I have 2 4 drawer stacks for all the smaller gadgets.

Is this a kosher kitchen? Do you need 2 sinks and dishwashers? I know a lot of designers dummy the corners, but I feel like they are valuable storage. You also don't need to have perfect symmetry with your base cabinets - as stated earlier - these cabinets need to function for what you need to store. Your island doesn't need to match cabinet size from one side to the other - ex one side could be 3 - 24" wide cabinets and the other side could be 2 -36" wide cabinets or an 18 and 2 - 27" . It needs to be for you. Do you have a lot of cutting boards, cookie sheets, etc? lots of small appliances? lots of tupperware? little ones that might want a snack drawer? Need a place for pet food?

    Good luck!!

Thank you Clyde - will consider a 4 drawer stack...

Thank you Debbi - it is a kosher kitchen! I am used to symmetry but will think about changing things up a little.

Another question - I would like to make the uppers on the range wall wider (so 30 inches instead of 24) with a single 15 inch cabinet on each side of the range...problem is what to do with the corner - Is it odd to have an uneven corner cabinet - meaning on the range wall the door will be 15 inches wide and on the sink wall only 12 inches wide - it will have an "easy reach" cabinet -- is this a possiblity? any other idea>

Greatly appreciate the very helpful feedback

Yes it is fine to have wall cabinets that are different widths. I try to keep them no more than 3" differences if possible. I strongly dislike the look of a wide door next to a narrow and avoid it as much as possible.

Thanks herbflavor - I was afraid that 15 is too narrow but will be doing the exercise of measuring my kitchen things this weekend so will see...

Thanks Debbi - the different widths will be on an upper corner cabinet - one side the door will be 15 and the other side 12 with an "easy reach" type of door - not sure if this is clear

    appreciate all the help

Do setup storage layout using the actual interior of the drawer box dimensions. These are a reduction of 15 inches by the cabinet sidewall, slide with clearance and box side thickness, all times two. That can add up depending on manufacturer. Ikea could be 12-13" x 22-23".

15" is a waste. even for a junk drawer, a 15" is too small even for utensils.

I think a good place to start is by making an inventory of the items you want to store, and where they would be most useful. (For example, pot holders, spatulas, spices near range; dish towels near sink; coffee cups near coffee maker; etc.) Then I'd measure my largest pots (height and width with handles) and skillets with handles. Figure out how you'll store these - e.g., will your tallest pot fit in a drawer with the lid on, or do you need to store the lid elsewhere? Do you want to lay your skillets flat, store them on their sides, or stack them? (I wanted to avoid stacking my ceramic coated pans.)

It may sound like a lot of work, but that's how you'll figure out your storage needs.

I use a pegboard system in a few drawers to organize bakeware, cookware, and glass storage containers with lids. I've reconfigured them a couple of times as I add / delete items. The pegboard keeps the configuration flexible.

    Pegboard:

I measured my tallest pot; it doesn't fit with the lid on so I have to store that sideways. Cast iron skillets fit sideways:

Flat (I measured my skillets and pans, and I clearly can't buy any more without deleting something!)
