Comments (5)My electric Craftsman died after over 12 years. I thought about replacing it with another electric but my current yard is 300' by 120' so we have a cord length problem with electrics. I liked the no hassle situation with the electric. So I ended up buying a Cub Cadet Trimmer BC509 4-Cycle Trimmer. Mine came with both the string head and the blade, but I believe the same model comes with out the blade. I believe the head comes with multiple attachments in other model packages. The reason I bought it was that it was a 4 cycle engine. While it is a few oz. heavier than a 2cycle, there is no mixing of gas and oil, and I am not putting heavy oils into the fuel system to clog it up the fuel jets. It starts easy when done per the manual. Because it is more powerful than my old electric, the job takes about half as long. For about $200, I would highly recommend it. Comments (6)It will be really hard to hit all those goals, especially between $100 and $150. If you only have .05 acre, why not go electric. I have a little over 1 acre and bought a Sthil FS 55 last year that does a pretty good job. I think it was in the $175 range, but it is a 2 cycle. My son bought a Ryobi 4 stroke a few weeks back. So far he is happy with it but I would not trade with him. Larry...See MoreWeed trimmer recommendation, please (gas-powered)
Comments (9)I have two fairly new 26ss Homelite Mighty Weed Trimmers. Both have less then two (2) hours of running time on them. On one the pull string wont return, it wonÂt start the engine. I tried rewinding the spring and the string at least 8 times and I still canÂt get this thing to work right. I am an automotive machinist of over 40 years I work with the smallest to the largest engines all day. I had several other Top Machinists in the shop take a look at it as well. The string wont return back to its original position after a load is applied to the engine. After the second pull it jams again. The only other option I can think of is to replace the starter pulley. But the trimmer is new right????? I paid $120.00 for the thing new, and spent about $400.00 in time trying to fix it. The other trimmer the muffler fell off after the third (3) usage...See More- last month
