Many thanks for your great input! That's correct that the pantry is there to hide the plumbing stack, and also because there is a wall segment next to it that needs to stay. I'll play around with the idea of putting a microwave there, interesting idea! I was planning for a drawer microwave but am not tied to that idea. I would love to have island seating and will see if I can make that work. I explored something similar to the plan you so kindly shared, but was worried that I wouldn't have enough cabinet and counter space. That part of the kitchen is also tricky because it serves as a "hallway" between rooms and is currently a traffic issue. herbflavor, I do plan wall cabinets but I don't have the actual cabinet sizes finalized. I plan on an 18 inch trash drawer and could certainly shift the stove. My goal is to figure out where the sink, appliances, and trash will go and then build the rest of the kitchen around that. It's great to hear this feedback. The first time I posted my kitchen plan I was told to "start over" (and rightfully so!). I'm very relieved that my updated plan seems to work a lot better!

My design book suggests 5' is needed for a single desk or each desk arranged side-by-side. There's no way you're going to squish three desks into a 9' space...and where would the fourth desk go? Take a yard stick and imagine that's all the width you had. You could arrange the desks in pairs perpendicular to the window as shown below. You could use, for example, four IKEA BEKANT 47 1/4 x 31 1/2 Desks. If deep enough, office storage could fit in the closets (example). Are you also going to fit beds in there too? Nope, the desks alone take nearly 8' of space from the window and the room is only 10-1/2' wide.

I would have the desk facing the french doors, to decrease my distraction out the window and to make it easier to see my computer screen. I would find a beautiful desk and see if there is additional room. Will you be meeting clients, and need a lovely chair across from the desk? Will most of your files be digital, or will you have binders or journals that could disappear into a lawyer's bookcase? Think a lot about lighting to avoid eyestrain and make you enjoy being in the space.

Ah, an all-in-one room! Here's a plan that will work. I love big workspaces, myself. Have a 27" deep desktop under the window wall to wall and find under counter file/drawers. there's plenty of room for a printer on the desktop. Instead of a sleep sofa, consider a daybed with a trundle. There are nice simple ones out there that are not country or curvy iron. This way it can be a decent bed for two when necessary. A standard sofa bed is too long and too deep for your room -- and uncomfortable to sleep on. The wall facing the door can be fitted for bookcases, low counters & TV above, drawers, and a corner closet. I tried all different layouts and this one covers all your requirements with a good work space, storage and a comfortable sleeping arrangement for guests. Hope this helps.
