What do I choose for window trim if I'm mounting sconces on it?
Comments (8)Does your trim have a deeper band on each side (same thickness on the part that goes against the window and the perimeter), or does it taper from the part against the window to the perimeter? I would probably interrupt the molding and place a block that is the same thickness as the thickest part of the molding underneath the backplate of the sconce. I would make it slightly larger than the backplate so it clearly appeared that the sconce "rested" on something, but I would not emphasize it more than that....See Morewindow casing and trim color help
Comments (1)I've posted this several times, but you may be a first-time-poster so will re-peat myself. When I built my home a year ago, I didn't want what I call 'Colonial white' trim/doors nor did I want stained wood. While visiting my son in Wilmington, NC several years ago, we were going thru custom homes, and one had warm tan walls w/trim/doors 4 shades darker. I knew this was the look I wanted 'if I ever built a home.' Suprisingly I *did*, and used this color combo, and have had many compliments. It gives a very warm feeling to the home and is also uniquely mine. Just make sure it's a warm tan and not in the cool spectrum, as the color might end up looking dirty. ;o)...See MoreTrim for house exterior
Comments (9)ssg- good point about the cleaning. I would defiantly like to avoid as much maintenance as I can. emmarene- Thanks. I have read up on garden webs opinion on shutters ;) I tried to draw these in at just about the proper size that would cover a window. I would have to do the actual measurements to see if they would make sense or be too cluttered. Garage won't work, if I go by garden web principles, since it is a double window and shutters on those make no sense (they would each be like 3' wide?) I have no inspiration picture. I keep trying to look around for one and haven't seen a ton of pictures focused on these things. That was just a random trim I thought was pretty- honestly I didn't even look at the size. I am going to try to make a scale model of the house and trim and try it on but no idea if I am that capable or not. I did see this picture for window crosshead which I thought was nice. That has no sill. Not sure if we should do a sill or not. Also I read a thread that said traditionally the trim below the window is not thick like the sides- it could just be a sill with no trim board). No idea about this or what to do....See MoreHelp with exterior trim
Comments (0)I posted on the decorating forum as well but haven;t gotten any responses yet. We are in the process of hiring a siding guy and need to decide how to trim our new construction. We are not yet sure on the house color. What would you do for window trim, door trim (if any- not sure if we need because of transom and sidelights), moulding, corner boards, trim boards etc. Also we kept going back and forth on shutters- the current idea was to do a slightly bigger trim and skip them but we are still open to the idea. Here is a picture of the current construction and a rendering of what the finished should should be something like (I drew shutters on one part just to give an idea what they look like.....we would either do none, or probably just the two front facing gables). For window trim I was thinking maybe something like this: http://www.architecturaldepot.com/CCB8-p-crossheads-8.html And then maybe something like this for under the roof (not sure what it's called- crown?) http://crown-molding.com/ev570-e-vent-fypon-combination-crown.aspx We can do whatever we want but I have no idea where to begin! For some reason I thought the siding guy would give us ideas and show us renderings- clearly I was wrong. Any help VERY much appreciated. Thanks everyone! (color still undecided...we are currently thinking grey or blue...also open to color suggestions. We are planning primed hardi so we can paint any color)....See MoreRelated Professionals
