Comments (8)Yup, no rugs. Walkers get tangled up with them. Teak is a great wood in a shower, as is Hinoki cedar. Cheaper teak shower seats have chrome legs, nicer ones are all wood. That said, I do like the modified teak shower seat at Hammacher Schlemmer (hammacher.com) which is the only seat I've seen with a built-in foot rest - very useful for someone with a bad back! You can find some handsome bath/shower organizers that are excellent quality (with a price to match) at the website of Frontgate.com. Also, Brookstone.com has some useful bath accessories, such as a countertop towel warmer for a reasonable $79.95. I've had back problems and it's painful to lean or stretch too far. Try to make sure everything is within easy reach, standing or sitting. One real problem with walkers is that you can't carry anything! So make certain everything she needs - washcloths, soap, shampoo, etc. - are right there within arm's reach. Don't forget to buy a potted orchid at your local flower mart or big box garden center, and it will add the perfect finishing touch to a spa-like environment. You're a sweetheart for thinking ahead and I'm sure she will have a great visit with you....See MorePlease help me find a wood vanity for this vintage/boho/spa bathroom!
Comments (47)As someone who moved into a home with a bathroom with stark white countertops (thankfully not in our primary bath), I think they aren't used as often because they show every smudge of toothpaste, hair clippings, mascara, etc - and your eye goes right to the mess. It's enough to drive you bonkers. At least with a little veining or movement, it distracts from the normal everyday stuff and prevents you from wiping the countertop multiple times each day. I've put in marble countertops in otherwise neutral or B&W baths before - it's actually a pretty traditional/classic look. I do like where you're going with putting some wood in there - it will add some nice warmth. Also, I think some places (although not Pottery Barn perhaps) allow you to order the vanity with no top. If you find one that is otherwise perfect, check the item options to see if that's a possibility. I'm very anti the afterthought 4 inch backsplash piece that comes with most vanities (I prefer to tile behind the sink), so I have taken that route in the past. That said, I would second the suggestion to consult with a custom cabinet maker (especially if the only thing stopping you is sample sizes - I'd imagine they could give you an entire drawer front if you really needed it!). The price is often negligible, and it provides you with more control over the numerous options that are clearly very important to you (I say that in solidarity as someone who is known for refusal to accept limited options!). The other benefit of going custom is sizing - a custom cabinet maker can build a unit to any width, so you can maximize the storage and counters to your space. They could also give you the two drawer/open shelf combination you're describing (although keep in mind those drawers may be limited to allow for plumbing for the sink). Another random source is Etsy - there are a few sellers who make vanities out of repurposed cabinets that might appeal to you. Check out CuratedHavenDesigns (I've had their "ornate bathroom vanity" listing saved for a while now - if only I had somewhere to put it)....See More"Timeless" bathroom for Spanish Mediterranean style home
Comments (41)Yes, the wallpaper is a showstopper! But I also love the white cross tiles and the green shower ones! The archway is done so, so well - that is a talented tiler! Enjoy the beautiful results. Bathrooms are hard and you nailed this one!...See MoreBefore and After: My Modern Spa Bathroom Reveal
Comments (21)Nicole - Well, you did a great job directing him re: the envelope cuts on the shower floor. I did notoce that the cuts weren’t completely symmetrical when I initially saw the photo of the floor (I’m a bit OCD - and notice things that others wouldn’t). I assumed that either (i) the shower wasn’t square, or (ii) the drain wasn’t centered - and it wasn’t worth the expense to move it. It still turned out really well! Thanks for the link re: the vanity - maybe it will include secifications showing the dimensions of everything - including the thickness of the countertop. I really like the vanity - I’ve had a custom one designed (it’s being finished) - but need to tell the fabricator how thick to make the mitered edge for the countertop. Again, your renovation looks very nice -really love the Cloe Cream with the wood vanity! The floor tile also works perfectly with it. It’s obvious that you carefully thought about how all of the different elements should work together! EDIT: the specs did show the thickness - 3.9” - that’s helpful. Thanks!...See MoreRelated Professionals
